Hiking (or "tramping" as New Zealanders call it) from one end to the other of this 32-mile track will take days, so if you're time-constrained, pick up a section of it. The view can't be beat as you walk through sandy bays and lagoons, past coves and estuaries.

We only had one day to spend in Abel Tasman so we couldn't do the entire coastal track. We decided to make a full day of it instead and took the morning ferry from Marahau to Bark Beach (only about $40 per person) and walked all they way back (about 21KM). This hike is stunning. The scenery is very diverse... More

For years I have been hearing about how cool the Abel Tasman is and now I get it. Golden unspoilt beaches on the shore of the Tasman Sea. You can enjoy short or long walks, camping, boat trips up the coast form Kaiteriteri and sea kayaking. Clean, fresh air in abundance. The supporting towns like Motueka have everything you need.

We did a 3 day hike/kayak combo trip., north to south I particularly liked Wilsons because there was the flexibility to hike rather than kayak parts of the trail, if we signed up for the combo trip. As it was, we did the standard trip. There was only one other person with my husband and me, and i give Wilsons... More

Note: What Americans call “trails”, New Zealanders call “tracks”. We took a water taxi (see Aquataxi) to Torrent Bay, in Abel Tasman National Park, and hiked from there to Bark Bay where we caught a return taxi. This section of the track (trail) is well-maintained and very beautiful, with many large trees but also frequent glimpses of the (Tasman) Bay.... More

Depending on who you are, you'll either love this track or wonder what all the fuss is about. People with little experience in the outdoors and little experience with walking in New Zealand might really enjoy it. The track is flat, easy, well-marked, well-maintained, and the rangers are about at every hut to keep you from getting yourself into too... More

This is the best way to know Abel Tasman National Park. If you only have one day to do the track my advice is to take a aqua taxi from Marahau, chose your stop 8, 20 or 40km away and then walk back to Marahau. One of my best days in New Zealand

Beautiful scenery with bush, beach and mountains. This track can be done in normal shoes and is well marked and maintained. A must for everyone's bucket list.

Beautiful beaches, native bush, birdlife. Gentle coastal outlook with well maintained tracks. Only one major climb out of Bark Bay

We got dropped and picked up by boat taxi and only walked a stretch manageable within a day. The track is of special interest to the amateur botanist and offers frequent great views as well as easy access to the multiple bays found in the area. The walking itself is not particularly challenging.as the track is fairly well-maintained and elevations... More

I came to Abel Tasman with a couple of friends. They decided to go on one of the excursion type things with sea kayaks etc; I'm poor so I just went for a walk. Took a water taxi out to Bark Bay and then spent the day walking back. Tell you what, it was ace. Wonderful to spend the day... More
