In 1949 its owner, Claude Lane, indulged his hobby by building a miniature 15” gauge tram, which he ran at garden fetes. This portable system enjoyed temporary homes at St Leonard’s and Rhyl before evolving onto the 2’ gauge Eastbourne Tramway. Many of the present trams were built at Eastbourne, but by the mid 1960’s the tramway’s success was outgrowing the mile line. Claude therefore began to look for alternative locations. In late 1969, Claude purchased the Seaton to Colyton section after the branchline had been closed by Dr Beeching in 1966 and, after a mammoth relocation from Eastbourne, the first section was opened in 1980. Since then the tramway has developed into one of Devon’s best loved attractions.New trams have been added to the fleet and the buildings have been much improved in order to meet the needs of the thousands of enthusiastic people who visit each year. « less

This was a nostalgia trip with my husbands family who used to visit this area when they were young. The trip along the estuary was very pleasant, even in the rain. Be prepared though to get cosy with the other passengers as I think these were built for shorter people! Nice little cafe at the end stop to have a... More

A nostalgic visit to travel on a tram was a brilliant experience especially for our grandsons, the day was perfect, staff very friendly and they interact with the children and adults. We managed to get upstairs at the front of the tram and enjoyed all the views. Stopping for a lovely coffee at Colyton and coming back was exceptional as... More

We are so pleased you had an enjoyable experience. Tram 4 is delightful to ride on,as you say, if you sit with the driver you almost feel as if you are driving yourself and if you sit at the back end you can see where you have been! More

It's our third year in Seaton and every year we visit the trams at least once! This year was even better because we discovered the great value explorer tickets which gave us unlimited daily travel for only £1 (adult) more than the single return trip ticket. We had three trips! Everything is clean and well maintained, the cafe at Colyton... More

This attraction is a gem. A great collection of scale trams, very professionally run, a decent gift shop and place to eat /drink. Kids, grandparents and anyone in between will enjoy this for a couple of hours. The track runs adjacent to wetlands and you can often see some see some rare birds in the marsh, reeds, mud. The staff... More

Lovely tram ride through countryside scenery taking in the views and birds. A brief stroll around colyton and a coffee in the cafe before return journey enjoyed spotting the different trams along the way. Driver was friendly and informative. Well worth a visit.

We walked from Colyford along the river to Colyton and got on there, but you can get on and off at Colyford. The journey took us to Seaton along side the wet lands and the Axe river, the have a number of different trams which are open top and the children on them seemed to love it. The drivers have... More

A great trip we go every year, the children love it - on top deck, be it bright or breezy. We always try to guess what colour tram we will be on before we arrive and what birds and wilde life we will see once on board. We also always walk into the village of Colyton and enjoy a cuppa... More

There is nothing like sitting on the top deck - but don't forget to ask for a blanket if it gets a little too breezy! More

Visited the tramway before but never left a review. Its a great half day out and the grandchildren just love it and keep wanting to come back for more. A very pleasant gentle journey of about 25 mins down the Axe Valley to Colyton with options to get on off at the station at Colyford. Excellent gift shop and café... More

Great attraction to visit riding on the miniature trams from Seaton-Colyford-Colyton. Loads to see on the route wildlife and scenery etc. Just wish they had late night running back and late Tramstop cafe opening for evening dinners. Have been coming here for 8 years now, and still don't get board of it. A must visit if your in the area.
