Twenty acres of outstanding woodland plants include not only a major rhododendron species collection with a leaning towards the more tender, but also all the usual spring-flowering favourites such as camellia, pieris, azalea and magnolia. Other trees and shrubs take the flowering season on into the autumn along with an inspiring miscellany of bulbs, perennials, climbers, water plants and ferns, many rare and unusual, many down to earth and familiar, all interesting and beautiful in their diverse ways. A spectacular coastal and island panorama can be enjoyed from the easily accessible cliff top viewpoint. Visitors are welcome every day and will find something of interest throughout the year, come rain or shine. « less

Beautiful garden. Quiet and relaxing. Easy walk, ok for kids. Great view point on the surrounding isles. Not a free attraction, but worth a visit when you fancy doing something relaxing. Path to the local rocky beach. Nice photographic opportunities.

Beautiful. So much in bloom, even now. Such a wide variety of beautiful plants, trees and shrubs. Well worth a visit.

We've always specialised in late season perennials, largely because we have so much to offer in the spring that we don't want summer here to be an anti-climax! The main borders are full of colour still and will be at least into October, sometimes into November, depending on the weather. There are perennials out there which haven't begun to flower... More

We stayed at the Loch Melfort Hotel next door and seized the opportunity to visit in season. As we have always visited the area previously out of season when the gardens were closed. We were not disappointed, so beautiful and quiet and peaceful, after the hubbub of London great to get away

Many thanks for your review - glad that you enjoyed the famous tranquillity of Arduaine Garden! Can I just say however that the garden has always been open every day of the year, with the reception desk staffed from April to September. So if you want to get away from it all (even on Christmas Day) then you know where... More

NTS garden - water garden, woodlands, viewpoint out to sea with views of several islands - a beautiful place. Just outside garden is small path leading to shore - say hello to the Highland cattle in the field at the side as you walk down

We always like to hear that visitors have enjoyed Arduaine - thanks for your review. Although autumn is in the air there's still a great deal to see here, particularly in the perennial borders, where kniphofia, nerine, Japanese anemone, schizostylis, helianthus, agapanthus, chelone and many, many more are in full flower! For others reading this, do come soon! The Highland... More

Nice place to go. You won't expect a garden like that in The Highlands. Also species like Actaea, Anemone, Veronicastrum and big Kniphofia's are to be seen in Arduane garden.. Even an Eucalyptus tree can be found in this garden! (Spot it on the foto) Coffee is quit expensive compared to what you normally get in Scotland. Small size for... More

We do have a beautiful and faraway location if you're coming from the continent, but we are a mere 100 miles NW of Glasgow and accessible from the A816 on a lovely stretch of the Argyll coast! We like to think that we have a good collection of plants in flower after the usual spring display common to so many... More

Visited in mid August. Gardens were super with an excellent range of hydrangeas in bloom. Visited at other times of the year and the gardens never disappoint.

Thank you for your review! We try not to disappoint but we've certainly had some very changeable weather this year which sometimes catches us out. We planted quite a few hydrangeas recently as apart from being good late flowerers, they were not on the host list for Phytophthora ramorum, so let's hope that they stay that way! We're trying to... I expect my late wife would have enjoyed this more than me. I am not a plants sort of person. I went in to think about her. The plants that would bloom had finished so it was a bit of a jungle. Probably wasted on me! But a bit of exercise.

Thank you for reviewing us. I'm sorry that your visit wasn't as happy as it might have been, but I hope that the peaceful surroundings made it possible for you to think about your wife and bring back some happy memories. Our sincere condolences on your sad loss. All very good wishes, Maurice. More

A medium/small NT garden. A garden fitting perfectly into its setting, with no silly gimmicks. A place to savour.

Thank you for your review. I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit and the simplicity of the garden. All we want is a tranquil garden with lovely plants, a beautiful setting and helpful staff. There are times when the medium/small 20 acre garden feels like a very large garden, of course, but no doubt that's because it always feels larger... More

A very tranquil place with collosal trees. Beautifully maintained and lovely to wander: round. It would be spectacle in the spring as it is full of rhodedendron .

Thanks for taking the trouble to review Arduaine. It is a tranquil place (except when there's a gale blowing in off the sea!) and we do our best to keep it tidy and interesting. Although there's lots to see all year round, it's another garden in the spring when the rhododendrons are a sight to behold - do come back... More

The gardens were amazing and very well maintained. Lovely place for an evening walk. Well worth the entry fee! Very close to the hotel.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed visiting us - I shall pass on your comments about the maintenance to my staff. We can't keep the shop open during the evening, but are happy to have the garden accessible for the benefit of guests at the nearby Loch Melfort Hotel - visitors can buy garden tickets there after 4.30pm. It's always... More
