Twenty acres of outstanding woodland plants include not only a major rhododendron species collection with a leaning towards the more tender, but also all the usual spring-flowering favourites such as camellia, pieris, azalea and magnolia. Other trees and shrubs take the flowering season on into the autumn along with an inspiring miscellany of bulbs, perennials, climbers, water plants and ferns, many rare and unusual, many down to earth and familiar, all interesting and beautiful in their diverse ways. A spectacular coastal and island panorama can be enjoyed from the easily accessible cliff top viewpoint. Visitors are welcome every day and will find something of interest throughout the year, come rain or shine. « less

I expect my late wife would have enjoyed this more than me. I am not a plants sort of person. I went in to think about her. The plants that would bloom had finished so it was a bit of a jungle. Probably wasted on me! But a bit of exercise.

A medium/small NT garden. A garden fitting perfectly into its setting, with no silly gimmicks. A place to savour.

A very tranquil place with collosal trees. Beautifully maintained and lovely to wander: round. It would be spectacle in the spring as it is full of rhodedendron .

Thanks for taking the trouble to review Arduaine. It is a tranquil place (except when there's a gale blowing in off the sea!) and we do our best to keep it tidy and interesting. Although there's lots to see all year round, it's another garden in the spring when the rhododendrons are a sight to behold - do come back... More

The gardens were amazing and very well maintained. Lovely place for an evening walk. Well worth the entry fee! Very close to the hotel.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed visiting us - I shall pass on your comments about the maintenance to my staff. We can't keep the shop open during the evening, but are happy to have the garden accessible for the benefit of guests at the nearby Loch Melfort Hotel - visitors can buy garden tickets there after 4.30pm. It's always... More

We spend a lot of time when we visit the UK visiting gardens and now and again, we come across a garden that has that little bit extra....the sort of place that you don't want to leave...Arduaine Garden is such a place. I don't know whether it is the location with stunning views or the climate which allows such wonderful... More

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review. It's very encouraging to receive such comments, as we have a very small staff and many problems to overcome with pests, diseases and bad weather. The location certainly lends us a fair amount of the Wow factor, but being on the edge of the ocean can... More

Amazing gardens with amazing views. If you are a National Trust Member it is free. We even saw a Red Squirrel!

Maurice W, Property Manager/Head Gardener at Arduaine Garden, responded to this review

Yes, as you say, entry is free to members of the National Trust - but also to members of various other affiliated Trusts from around the world, the Scottish Rhododendron Society and the American Rhododendron Society - and not forgetting the National Trust for Scotland! So if you're a member of none of these organisations, please join the NTS -... More

Arduaine Gardens may not be as famous as Inverewe but we loved them. They are beautifully planned and maintained, and a pleasure to explore.

So glad that you enjoyed your visit to Arduaine Garden. You're right - we're not as famous as Inverewe, but I think there are several reasons for this. Firstly, Inverewe has been around a little longer, even though it's maybe only 35 years older. Secondly it has had a couple of books written about it - 'A Hundred Years in... More

We visited Arduaine Gardens early June on a gorgeous sunny morning. The flowers were spectacular. Such a relaxing peaceful garden, easy to walk around and plenty of wildlife too. We would highly recommend a visit.

We've had some wonderful weather here recently with a lot of sunshine, but we're now beginning to worry that we don't get enough rain! It did rain lightly all day last Wednesday, but we need a few nights of gentle rain to soak the ground and bring the water level in the ponds up again! Gardeners are never happy! Glad... More

Visited lots of times, the rhodidendruns (is that how you spell it?) anyway the flowers are spectacular and the gardens are well kept and always worth a visit!

Many thanks for your review - so glad that you enjoy the gardens. We try to keep them in good order in spite of everything that the weather throws at us! The rhododendron season is always the most spectacular and nothing comes near it in volume of colour, but there so many other plants now in flower that as you... More

Varied plants with something to see at all times of the year. Also good for birds, we watched a Spotted Flycatcher over a pond catching insects for its young

We like to think that there is something in flower on every day of the year if you take the trouble to look! The garden and its surroundings are good for birds too, as you say, with a wide range of small birds frequently seen and a number of larger birds too. Apart from common birds such as heron and...
