This garden is well worth a visit, with well laid out paths, and a profusion of beautiful plants and trees.
great café next to garden, serving great hot scones, hot drinks and beer etc. great value, lovely staff
Thanks for your review of our neighbours at the Loch Melfort Hotel - but I do hope that you enjoyed Arduaine Garden too! Regards, Maurice. More
Our second visit here we were just a bit early for most of the rhododendrons, but still a lovely walk
Thank you for your review! In a ‘normal’ year there would be very few rhododendrons in flower in March, but after a very mild winter there are dozens already out and several past and gone. Looking out of my office window on 3rd April I can see a large pink-flowered magnolia in full bloom against the backdrop of a very... More
As you walk down the path to the entrance the gardens look just like any other wooded area. I was amazed as soon as I went through the entrance though. Try to visit in May to catch everything in full bloom. Less impressive at other times but still a very peaceful space with some great views.
Thank you for your review. As you say, the garden is usually at its most impressive in May, though I have to say late April and early May in particular, but this year it's going to be a great deal earlier. We have many rhododendrons and magnolias in full glorious flower and very few visitors to appreciate them! So do... More
would be stunning to see in the summer - don't miss it when the flowers are in bloom, still enjoyed the walk round
Thank you so much for your review - I hope you had a reasonable day for your visit as it seems to have been raining for ever! As I write on 19th March we have many wonderful rhododendrons in flower, with very many more about to bloom. Unless we have some serious frost, which we haven't yet had this winter,... More
We love Arduaine Garden and visit it virtually every time we are in the area, so we have experienced the garden in every season. In the winter there are understandably fewer visitors but there is still much to see and this time we counted nine different flowering shrubs or plants, which is pretty impressive in February. It is a lovely,... More
Many thanks for your review. We don't have that many visitors during the winter, especially at times when the nearby Loch Melfort is closed, but I'm glad that you did come and found something to see! I'm pretty sure that even in the worst weather something can be found in flower, so nine different plants was pretty good - this... More
Large scale garden with variety of acid-loving plants. Many ideas for own home wildlife garden. Need time here to see all of it. Large garden.
Thanks for your review. Had a bit of a rough time of it over the last few weeks because of the stormy weather. We've had to stay closed over the holiday as we've had a few trees down and the paths are strewn with debris. It can be quite scary under the tall trees in a strong wind, but we're... More
Although it was November there was still a fair bit to see in the gardens. although it's much better in the summer.
Thanks for your review - I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit. It's been a rather wild December this year, with the weekend of the 14/15th being particularly rough, but even so, the garden is very sheltered and there's still plenty to see, even if there's not so much in flower now. Winter is a good time to enjoy shape... More
We visited twice in late November, and enjoyed the autumn colours of leaves, trees and ferns - and a very few flowers esp. Fucias. In this off season it's a pleasure to find somewhere open, and especially as quiet and peaceful as these gardens.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the garden, even in November! Always something to see, both in leaf and in flower. Every year on St Andrews Day - 30th November - we make a list of flowers that are out in the garden and it's surprising to find so many! I'm hoping to make a good list this weekend. Winter... More
We visited the gardens as part of a deal we got via the loch melfort hotel close by. The gardens are dog friendly as long as the dogs are on a lead. What a perfect afternoon we spent strolling through the manicured lower gardens which include walled gardens, ponds and viewpoints and the arboriums of the upper gardens with the... More
Thank you for your review. Having worked here - and lived in the garden - for 21 years I suppose I take it for granted, and it's reviews like yours that remind me of how beautiful this coastline is, and how wonderful Arduaine Garden is! I remember my reaction to coming here for the first time - as a visitor... More
