Arduaine is a wonderfully moist and mossy coastal garden, influenced beneficially by the North Atlantic Drift and enjoyed by enthusiasts from all over the world. Twenty acres of outstanding woodland plants include not only a major rhododendron species collection with a leaning towards the more tender, but also all the usual spring-flowering favourites such as camellia, pieris, azalea and magnolia. Other trees and shrubs take the flowering season on into the autumn along with an inspiring miscellany of bulbs, perennials, climbers, water plants and ferns, many rare and unusual, many down to earth and familiar, all interesting and beautiful in their diverse ways. A spectacular coastal and island panorama can be enjoyed from the easily accessible cliff top viewpoint. Visitors are welcome every day and will find something of interest throughout the year, come rain or shine.

We greatly enjoyed our visit on a gloriously sunny day, and our kids loved looking into the ponds, doing the kids trail, and generally having fun. Unfortunately it was very much marred by of the gardeners scolding my 8 year old son - after we had just left - for sitting on a patch of grass. He very rudely said... More

Thanks for your review and I'm glad that you enjoyed our beautiful garden, but very sorry that you felt that I'd been rude to your son. Please allow me to point out that he wasn't just 'sitting on a patch of grass' - in fact we're delighted for everyone to use our lawns for relaxation - but had scrambled up... More

Thank you for your kind review! We do our best! There's a huge number of plants in flower now so if other people are looking in to TripAdvisor, now's the time to come to Arduaine! Not that any time isn't a good time, of course! Thanks again, Maurice. More

This is an amazing garden, with a great peaceful ambiance. The plants are wonderful and I think EVERYONE is named - if that is your passion. The paths are marked and seem well graded and there are lots of seats dotted around. It is truly great to have wee note boxes beside the seats which tell you what to look... More

How kind to give us such a good review. I wish I could agree that all the plants are labelled but I would be exaggerating - we are trying to get all the trees and shrubs done, but it's a long and expensive business as you can imagine. Unfortunately not everyone is as appreciative - I noticed several more labels... More

We drove down to Arduaine from Oban, it seems a long way but is well worth it. The kids loved playing in the children's play area while we had a great coffee from the hotel. After that we went into the gardens themselves, which are superb. None of us are gardeners but we could appreciate the work involved and admire... More

Many thanks for your kind review! It may seem a long road from Oban but it's only 20 miles and usually takes about 30 minutes unless you get stuck behind a caravan! It's a scenic route though, with good views out over the sea to Mull and various sea-lochs and islands. It's a wonderful time to visit the garden with... More

These gardens are amazing. It's a beautiful walk, peaceful, old fashioned and just the perfect way to spend an afternoon. You can get down to the sea as well, it's a lovely quiet coast there too.

Thanks Caroline for your review. Spring seems to have finally sprung here and the garden is coming alive with flowers of all kinds, from lofty magnolias and rhododendrons to bulbs, ferns and perennials. We've had an Easter celebration today and though we never attract huge numbers it's been a great day, dry, clear and sunny. I can hear the local... More

A mature garden right by the sea with huge ornamental trees and well grown rhododendrons and azeleas. There are several interesting paths and a spectacular viewpoint (on a sunny day!). Worth wandering for half a day. You can then get lunch at the nearly Loch Melfort Hotel.

Good of you to write a review after a New Year visit to the Loch Melfort Hotel! As you can imagine, it's not the best time to see the garden, though there is always something for the discerning and interested visitor. We're having one of our fairly unusual snowy days today on the 13th January, but I doubt if it... More

A lovely mix of formal and woodland gardens. Perhaps best seen in Spring but still a lovely spot in winter.

Maurice W, Property Manager/Head Gardener at Arduaine Garden, responded to this review

Thanks for taking to time to write a review, particularly as the beginning of winter isn't the greatest time in the garden! This is the time when we begin the big clear-up, plan changes and planting and get on with all the invisible work which we hope will make the garden a better place next year. Visitors maybe don't always... More

Loved the varied amount of plants and flowers to see within beautiful garden setting. Even visiting in November there was still a number of flowers in bloom and lovely sea views to enjoy.

Many thanks for your kind review. It's been an amazing season too - so many plants flowering beyond their normal season, even now towards the end of November. We always have a smattering of rhododendrons flowering again in the autumn, but this year we have flowers on several different species. We've also had a number of plants setting seed which... More

The gardens were in full autumn colours and were a treat to walk round. We intend to return in the Spring to see them in bloom. A must visit for anyone who hasn't been

Arduaine is a very peaceful place - unless it's blowing a gale, of course, and even then it's more peaceful than the outside world! Do come back in the spring - but remember that we're an early garden and to see the rhododendrons and azaleas at their best you shouldn't leave it too late; April and May are generally good.... Arduaine can almost be another garden at different times of the year. Springtime is our strong point, of course, but even then it's worth remembering that we're an early garden and the April and May period is our spring peak. Summertime is good here too, as unlike some west coast gardens we have a lot to offer from July onwards... More
