Arduaine is a wonderfully moist and mossy coastal garden, influenced beneficially by the North Atlantic Drift and enjoyed by enthusiasts from all over the world. Twenty acres of outstanding woodland plants include not only a major rhododendron species collection with a leaning towards the more tender, but also all the usual spring-flowering favourites such as camellia, pieris, azalea and magnolia. Other trees and shrubs take the flowering season on into the autumn along with an inspiring miscellany of bulbs, perennials, climbers, water plants and ferns, many rare and unusual, many down to earth and familiar, all interesting and beautiful in their diverse ways. A spectacular coastal and island panorama can be enjoyed from the easily accessible cliff top viewpoint. Visitors are welcome every day and will find something of interest throughout the year, come rain or shine.

As a lifetime National Trust member I adore visiting the amazing gardens (especially those managed by NT Scotland!) However, from start to finish Arduaine constantly exceeded our expectations!! First of all, the "Coos!" After drinking our fill of these gorgeous beasts we began our exploration of the garden estate (make sure you take the map leaflet otherwise you'll likely miss... More

I'm sad to report that it seems likely that this will be the last reply I shall make on TripAdvisor as I shall be retiring at the end of February after nearly 24 years at Arduaine. I'm glad that the last review is a good one! It's mighty good of you to say all this and I'm really pleased that... More

To be honest, we never quite made it into the gardens. We were distracted by the view from the top and the three highland coos at the motel, situated at the entrance to the Gardens. Perfect photo opportunity.

Highly recommended if you love gardens, not to be missed. There are some wonderful unusual plants and even in November something was flowering. Just lovely.

Even I'm surprised by what's in flower here so late in the year - the nerines in particular are still lovely! The wind is getting up this evening as Abigail moves in, so I hope we have something left by morning! No, it will be fine and still worth visiting even in winter. Many thanks for your review! Decided to visit as we were staying at hotel next door. Surprised at how large the gardens are. Well planted for the time of year. Plenty to see so would recommend a visit

Thank you for your review. There certainly is plenty to see, even in the middle of October. I think that potential visitors would be amazed to find how big the gardens are - 20 acres - and just what an staggering plant collection we have. Even today, after a night of rain and with very little sunshine, there are a... More

Beautiful gardens even in October. Plenty of shrubs in flower, well kept paths and easy walks round beds and ponds

A1 reviewer too! The season is advancing and this weekend has been rather dull, but autumn foliage is beginning to colour up and there are still many things in flower, not just shrubs but loads of perennials too. Glad you enjoyed it - and can I tell other readers to that it's still well worth coming in; we're not finished... More

Lovely National Trust for Scotland garden within walking distance of the Loch Melfort Hotel. Allow about an hour and a half for the chance to explore the whole garden.

We do indeed have wonderful views, though actually of the sea - the Sound of Jura to be precise! We also have a wonderful collection of plants which as I write on 8th October, is still astonishing. We have enough plants in flower to satisfy even the most ardent plant lover! Just because it's October it doesn't mean we're not... More

Many hydrangeas, lovely fall foliage, sweeping seaviews, intimate pocket gardens. I took dozens of snapshots I want to go home and paint. More than 50 types of rhododendrons and 100s of plantings must be glorious in early summer. I want to come back.

So glad that you enjoyed your visit to Arduaine - it must seem very different from Colorado! If you get those paintings done we would love to see photographs of them on our Arduaine Flickr page one day! It's been a wonderful late summer here - the hydrangeas have been in spectacular flower for weeks on end and still new... More

We came here with Great Rail Journeys and was more than delighted. You can take two paths (short or long) and follow the arrows. We did both paths and was not disappointed as we passed different ponds at the lower path then climbed the higher path to see the wonderful views overlooking the Loch. Although the gardens were worth a... More

One thing I would like to have done was to have a miniature railway to transport visitors from the hotel down to the garden and haul them up to the viewpoint! Unfortunately the necessary millionaire hasn't yet turned up. If you know of any . . . . . . . ! Anyway, apart from the lack of a railway... More

This garden is a delight to walk around with a variety of shrubs and flowers set out beautifully. Admittedly, we arrived on a glorious September day but the plants were glorious and the views over the loch are superb. Be aware that there is a walk of about 200 metres from the car park to the entrance to the garden... More

Thank you for your review, even if the title sounds like a cos lettuce! After a rather mixed year weather-wise we've been enjoying the sunshine for a couple of weeks - what a difference it has made! Can I point out that the path back to the car park is only a shallow gradient and we're happy to push tired... More

Visited on a nice sunny day and these gardens are very impressive, well maintained and extremely peaceful even though it was early October most flowers were still in bloom. There are two, reasonably well, signposted paths to follow to navigate you through the gardens.

Thanks for your kind comments. It's been a good late summer and so much is still flowering. Hope you didn't get lost - the two walks are marked by numbered posts and we hope are clear but not intrusive. I'm glad that you caught the sunny weather - it does make a difference! Thanks again, Maurice. More
