Because the Tytyri mine is a limestone-mine, there are no poisonous gases or anything else that could be dangerous. The air is always about 10°C and it is clean. In fact, the mine is so clean that the city takes most of its drinking water from the mine! The water is filtered in a sand-filter and then pumped into the... More

And why wouldn´t it be, it is 80 meters underground. +8C. Reception with the two good looking ladies who greeted politly as soon as I got in through the door was spot on. They even got my jokes and made some of thier own. Guide was great, took care that even the kids got on. Two hours full of fun.... More

Our smiling guide Katri was driving me and my Chinese colleague downwards along one of those mine roads into the depth of the still-running limestone mine. We landed in front of the entrance of the mine museum, knocked the door with an echo. Exicting to be down and walk and see what there down. Limestone was heard to have several... More

The mine museum is actually a partial obsolete shaft from a still-running mining site. Check out the schedule as this is only guided tours. After registration, you'll get a safety helmet and will have to wait for a van to bring you down to the entrance. The van is riding down in the mine, you will be suddenly in a... More

Very interesting but tour could be a bit shorter. Make sure you have warm clothes, even during summer.

There are different themes in the Tytyri Mine. The year I visited the Tytyri Mine, there was light and music show, this year s theme has been dining in "Pop down" restaurant. This was popular. Wear warm clothes, it is chilly down there.

I took two children - 7 and 8 - and the visit was primarily for their enjoyment. The overall impression it leaves is good - but the 2 hours was overly drawn out. A lot may be dependent on the guide. We heard what must have been hundreds of dates and measurements - and a barrage of facts - but... More
