Read many good reviews and beautiful photographs of Bor Sang Umbrella Village in tripadvisor, so I arranged a half day tour with a local guide to take us there. The village was actually quite near from the city centre (only around 20 mins drive from Night Bazaar area). Our guide took us to the Umbrella Centre, a tourist trap for... More

Bor Sang umbrella village is really nice visit. You will see the production of Bor Sang umbrella from the start - step by step - from the beginning to the end. You can talk and exchange knowledge with the locals or even try to make it yourself. The villagers are very kind and polite. For painting station, you can buy... More

Once again being shown around fabulous Chiangmai district by our local friends, we were picked up and taken to the Umbrella Village. Not knowing what to expect ,and thinking 'How boring is this going to be' I was pleasantly surprised. I had never given any thought as to how an umbrella was made. This place is fantastic, they had lots... More

Unique experience. Demonstrations on making sa paper covered umbrellas. Nice souvenir shop on site. Colourful handpainting. Bring something, a t-shirt, a hand bag and have it painted on the spot.

Enjoyed our visit which was part of a private day long tour but would not advise making a special trip unless you are really into this sort of thing. Toilet facilities, drinks and a gift shop are here but not any real place to eat in the little complex or village as they like to call it.

Learning how umbrellas are made by hand and watching the artists paint. They even painted my wallet while I watched.

The white van taxis from the Old City to the Umbrella Village takes about 20 minutes. There are numerous street vendors outside the village selling umbrellas and other souvenirs. It's a good idea to price the goods for sale before entering the village. The goods on sale in the village are of a better quality and more expensive.

This is a "tourist trap", surelly - you are driven there to buy something, to spend money. Eventhough, it is worthy - after all, every tourist have some souvernirs to buy, and everyone of us know that you hardly will go through a whole vacation without visiting one of those shops... So bread, embrace the idea and go. Outside the... More

The headline says it all. It's amazing the amount of work that goes into these umbrellas and fans. Here you see the process from start to finish, the paper making, bamboo stripping, tying and finally the umbrella construction and decoration. There's also the opportunity for you to decorate your own umbrella or fan and there's a small shop on site... More

The Umbrella Handicrafts center in Bor Sang is a small square with a few shops selling local handicrafts and umbrellas. Not much to shop. If you walk out to the main road outside, the two rows of shop lots hugging the street have plenty of more interesting local products for you to buy. There's a shop selling beautiful modern and...
