Although barely marked along State Route 41, and 30 miles E of Paso Robles, there is a sad historic exhibit next to a small cafe on the NW side of the highway that invites the curious to stop by and view some mementos. James Dean, an original and iconic Hollywood rebel from the 1950s died tragically here driving his own... More

We were told we would travel past this Junction on the way back to Vegas from Pacific Coast. For some morbid reason I just wanted to see what view Mr Dean must have enjoyed on that famous traffic disaster. I can fully understand how his Porsche may have been considered to have been travelling faster than the 55 speed limit... More

As an old movie buff this was a must see. I found it a bit sad that the memorial is in the parking lot of a restaurant and was funded by a private citizen of another country. The actual site of the crash, or as close to it as you can get now, is marked with a few pictures on... More

We don't generally stop here when we drive to the beach, but I have to say the improvements to Hwy 46 are fabulous. It's the only way we go anymore.

It is a nice memorial that was put up to remember the site of James Dean's fatal car wreck from taking a corner too fast. The corner is visible. There is various memorabilia, post cards, etc and it is a quick stop to see and get a quick sandwich inside the cafe.

There is what I suppose you could call a dedication area at Jack Ranch Cafe on Route 41, but it's not really where the accident happened. I suppose if you happen to be driving by, it's interesting to check out, but not worth a special trip, that's for sure.

I don't understand why Tripadvisor lists this as an attraction in Morro Bay...It's over fifty miles away from Morro Bay in the California coastal mountain range. There's really not much here...there's a memorial plaque that talks about James Dean and his crash (which happened about a mile or so down the road). There's a nearby restaurant that has James Dean... More

Have you seen those plaques that say, "On this spot on such-and-such-date nothing happened"? Well, in this case there's not even a spot to put the plaque. As another has pointed out, it's nowhere NEAR Morro Bay (TripAdvisor lists it as a Morro Bay attraction). This is a fairly dangerous "minimalist" intersection in the middle of nowhere with a long... Just stumbled onto it. Nice bit of trivia. Worth seeing and in midst of some wonderful agricultural areas of SW California

This memorial be on the way to Morro Bay but it is nowhere near Morro Bay as far as an activity to do in Morro Bay.
