A historic home, bird sanctuary, park, and museum all in one, located in the house of writer and Nobel Prize finalist Baroness Karen Blixen (in the US and UK, Isak Dinesen), known especially for "Out of Africa" and "Seven Gothic Tales". The museum not only maintains the 17th century house, Blixen's furnishings, and the park, but regularly hosts exhibitions related to Blixen's life and work in Kenya and Denmark. Recent exhibitions have included an exhibition "HER" by internationally acclaimed artist Candice Breitz about Meryl Streep's career.

I have lived in Africa all my life and have travelled quite extensively during the 15 years I owned and ran my own travel company.I have visited Copenhagen regularly and always try to see or do something new. This trip we visited the Karen Blixen Museum. We drove there and the drive was interesting - the suburbs we drove through... More

It is very easy to get here from Copenhagen. A short train ride and then a 15 minute walk. If you stay on the right side of the road going towards the sea, you will meet a small path, marked by birdhouses. The path leads through a beech forest, with labelled other trees including cherry and maple. You pass by... More

The house was claustrophobic, and lacked air -- we couldn't wait to get outside and tour the lovely gardens, stately trees -- and the innovative "bench tour" : every trail bench had a smart-phone-recognizable token that let you hear Karen Blixen's voice describing the view and grounds. Memorable!

First, you have to want to travel there and it's easier than it appears. Take the train from Central Station to Rungsted Kyst station and it's a 10 minute walk - or take bus no. 388 from the Rungsted station. First take the time to wee the exhibits and storyboards in the museum portion of the building. It helped me... More

Out of Africa, is book and movie I knew of but wasn't interested, fortunately the Trip Advisor reviews interested me and we went to Karen Blixen’s home. Her face, her family story and love story you feel you share in this lovely sea side home. The train ride to & from, meeting local people, following a group of tourist, we... More

If you have seen the movie, read her books or learned about Karen Blizen her museum is a fascinating place. Located North of Copenhagen, it is situated in beautiful surroundings with the Rungsted Kyst Marina very nearby. Definitely recommended.

Well, if you are old enough to remember the 80'es movie "Out of Africa" with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, you will love the Karin Blixen museum. The museum is a flight of stairs up, but you are also allowed guided tours in the rooms where Karin Blixen, aka Isak Dinesen, spent the final 30 years of her life her.... More

What do you expect of a museum dedicated one person? Flashy infotainment? I dont. To me the Karen Blixen museum displays the fascinating life of Blixen in a rather quiet manner, just the way she talked – but definitely not the way she lived. Being her home for many years you the place so beautifully situated is a sight even... More

Close enough to Copenhagen, and beautiful house. I got a bit emotional to see they kept the gramophone Denys Fitch-Hatton gave her, and the chair he used to sit down in Africa. A bit disappointed you can't see her private bedroom, it would be lovely to see it.
