Have visited Bowood twice in the past two months. The first was a guided tour of the private gardens which was well organised from start to finish. We were part of a group of 24 (the maximum is 30) and it took about 2 hours including a walk to the waterfall. Our guide was well prepared for the event and... More

Attended the Antiques Roadshow day, hot - cloudy, but glorious! My Aussie mates, enamoured by Fiona Whasit were not disapointed! House closed? But, a small tea tent staffed by Lady Fotherigham and her retinue - another tent with awful Pimms and mediocre burgers, but other food looked ok - had expected all singing and all dancing food - hog roast,... We visited the house and gardens on a nice sunny day on the 29th June 2015 long before the school holidays started. This meant along with other pensioners we had the place to ourselves, giving us time to stop and read all the information about the family still residing here. There was was quite a lot to see and naturally... More

we visited Bowood House and Gardens last week and thought it was quite lovely the walks are superb and the people involved were all very welcoming and helpful. The house is still lived in so you do not visit the whole of it but what you do is well worth seeing! The restaurant we visited served good food and was not... More

Beautiful house exterior, would have liked to see more of the inside, didn't get any feel for what it was like to live in it. Beautiful garden, very well maintained, wonderful Capability Brown landscape. Cafe within the house complex suddenly closed during the afternoon so we had to walk back to the main cafe situated near to the car park.... More

Hello stefan d Many thanks for your review - I'm really pleased you had a lovely visit. The reason that all of the House is not open is that is still the private residence of Lord and Lady Lansdowne. There are still large areas open to the public and they are full of interesting artefacts. Hopefully the fact that this... More

Enjoyed a recent visit . It was nice seeing families bringing picnics and enjoying the adventure playground.he only drawback was the café. We queued for ages just to buy a sandwich. It was lunch time so you expect it to be busy but I wonder if you could have a 2nd till so that people buying cold food did not... More

We visited the house after staying at the hotel. Great for families as they have an enormous playground. Normally this would be annoying but Bowood have kept the play area away from the house and formal gardens and it is almost hidden by trees and shrubs. The house is beautiful and had lots of exhibitions. You do not get to... More

Hello Brittany C Many thanks for your lovely review and recommendation - I'm really pleased that you enjoyed your visit to Bowood. You are right that not all of the House is open to the public but that is because Lord and Lady Lansdowne still live here which is part of Bowood's charm and why the gardens and grounds are... More

Bowood is simply beautiful. So miss taking my children there now that they are grown. Great adventure playground for families. Beautiful Georgian house for adults to daydream in, choice of cafe and restaurants. Stunning grounds with Lake, Waterfall, cave and trees and relaxing open areas. Just a little piece of heaven.....
