A great time for all the family

This is not just a "stately home", in fact it's a bit small for that as the Big House, was demolished in the 1950s. The house itself is easily manageable (except for the stairs... read more

We had been to the House on a previous visit to the area which was fine, if not grand. But in May we went straight for the Rhododendron Walks (a separate entrance on the A342; only opened six weeks in the spring). About 60 acres, each week they have a sign-posted walk designed to take you where the best colors... More

I have been to Bowood several times over the past four years and visited this year again with my nephew, the playground as ever great fun and Tractor Ted worth while visiting, but I went as normal to the café at the entrance as I had a child with me. I could always get a good meal and a childs... More

We went here for the tractor ted weekend and unfortunately found the day to be disappointing. I dont write reviews but really feel i need to this time. Firstly I hadnt realised how expensive entry was, especially for my 2 year old. The toilets by the entrance only have 2 cubicles, and are tiny, as well as dirty. There is... More

Dear Gem B I'm so sorry you have not had a lovely experience with us at Bowood. Your comments are so different to the ones we normally get that I can only put it down to a bad day and hope that you can come back another day so we can give you the wonderful experience that we aim for.... More

This is not just a "stately home", in fact it's a bit small for that as the Big House, was demolished in the 1950s. The house itself is easily manageable (except for the stairs) and full of delights - a wonderful library, the room where Joseph Priestley did some experiments while tutoring the younger Lansdownes, some beautiful costumes and masses... Hello leeGlosUK Many thanks for your great review - I'm really pleased you enjoyed your visit. It was lovely to hear you say that there is something for all ages at Bowood - I will pass that comment on to Lord Lansdowne as that is something he has always been keen to provide since opening to the public forty years... Had a wonderful day out at Bowood yesterday. Lots of activities for the children, including races and welly wanging ! The adventure playground was really one of the best and we couldn't get the children off of the Space Dive. Grounds are beautiful including the cave and waterfull. Good value if you make full use of all the activities for... More

A pleasant day trip. Rather expensive entry costs. Interesting walk around the gardens but lacked real value for money taking into account the cost of entry.

Hello Budgie18 Many thanks for your review. I'm sorry that you didn't feel that you got complete value for money - most people say the opposite as there is so much here from the adventure playground, Capability Brown landscape, Little Farm, gardens and acres and acres of beautiful space plus the House with fascinating history and interesting exhibition rooms. We... More

Bowood House offers a range of attractions. The house itself was a little disappointing as the main house has long gone and it did not take long to go round the remaining part open to the public but it did have some great paintings. The gardens were large but only a relatively small formal section. Cascades were well worth the... More

Hello Peter V Many thanks for your review - I will pass on your comments about the Rhododendron Gardens to Lord Lansdowne as he loves to hear that people have enjoyed them. He puts a lot of personal time and effort into the Rhododendrons - a real labour of love. As you say the Rhododendron season is quite short -... More

Lovely grounds and looks excellent fun for the kids (we left ours at home as my 50th!) One wing of the house is open for viewing with lots of information available to read. Guides very helpful and really know the history of the house and family.
