We hired narrowboat "Lydia" for a four day break between Xmas the New Year. Boat was in excellent condition - clean and tidy throughout - and benefited from both central heating and a traditional fire. We were warm and comfortable throughout despite it getting so cold the canal began to freeze over! It was an idylic holiday, taking leisurely trips... More

We used a Groupon voucher for a day out on the Kennet and Avon Canal with Sally Narrowboats. The staff were welcoming and efficient, doing everything they could to help on arrival. The handling briefing was comprehensive and well presented. The boat we had was only six months old, was in good condition, clean and presentable. On advice from the... More

We cruised from Devizes to Bath and back. As this part of the canal realistically goes from below the gruelling Caen Hill flight of a days worth of locks to Bath it is ideal for the novice boater. There are many hire boats. This means there are quite a few people attempting to steer large 70ft long boats - narrow... More

We rented a narrowboat from Sally's Narrowboats operating out of Bradford on Avon. We had a midweek break of 4x nights. It was a fabulous relaxing time. We went to Bath and back at a very slow pace. There was just the two of us and we managed to do the swing bridges and locks(although we had help with the... More

Would highly recommend walking from Bradford on Avon along the Kennet & Avon Canal into Bath. It's about 10 miles through lovely countryside and well worth a visit. Allow yourselves a good 3-4 hours - taking in the various stops along the way - ice cream, café, country pub! Whilst suitable for walking, I would also recommend taking your bikes.... More

We hired Lesser Spotted Eagle from Hilperton Marina and travelled down through to just beyond Bath on the River Avon. The stretch of canal from Bradford-on-Avon to the bottom of the Bath Lock flight is one of the most beautiful we have been on and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. We moored neat the Cross Guns at Avoncliffe Aqueduct,... More

Flat, reasonable path;easy going comfortable walking.Very quiet(we walked on a weekday);the odd canal boat or dog walker but the whole towpath largely to ourselves.A pleasant walk with the added option of return by public transport if needed, the train line follows the canal for much of its length.

Had a fantastic few days on the Corn Bunting from ABC Boat Hire at Hilperton Marina. Spent the first night at The Barge Inn; had a lovely meal and a peaceful night. Second night at All Cannings; spectacular scenery and another lovely friendly pub - the Kings Arms. Third night spent at the top of the Caen Lock Flight (lovely... More
