We drove four hours out of our way from Yangon to visit Golden Rock, which meant spending the night in one of the area's mediocre hotels. (Pick your poison; ours was the Golden Sunrise, about five minutes from the bus station in the little town at the base of the mountain.) Originally we'd planned to go up once at sunset... More

During our three week visit to Myanmar, my wife and I arranged to spend the night at Kyaikto to see what was so special about this place. Well, we loved it, starting with that incredible truck ride up a winding mountain road packed in so tight that it was impossible for anyone to be throw out! When you finally arrive,... More

The Golden Rock was incredibly settled on the cliff. It's nice as seen during the day or night. Bare feet are required to visit the area. Highly recommended to bring a bag to keep the shoes with you all the time. Females are strictly prohibited to enter certain area and near the Golden Rock.

We travelled a few hours by road from Yangon with a private car , guide and driver to see the "rock". Then 45 minutes on a flatbed truck with 6 rows of seats, with 6 people across. A long way, but the rock, the pilgrims travelling from all over the country and elsewhere, the monks, the activity and the photos... More

This ia a real experience that you never will see in Europe or the USA. Thousants of people are near the rock, 1100m high, and to reach by 2 ways, walking 5 or 6 ours, or wth trucks thta have about 60 people in the back. This devils drive is really an exprience. If you walk, up or down make... More

Its possible to visit the place on your own as a day trip from Yangon but you will need to leave early (the earlier the better) and get back very late. My hotel helped me to get the bus tickets and once you are below the mountain, you can expect an hour long (including waiting time) bumpier than heck journey... More

The rock itself was of no spectacular significance to me. What really struck me was the dedication of the local people to what I considered a somewhat mediocre attraction. People sleep by the temple! Hundreds of them! You can hardly walk amongst all the locals squatting on the mountain top, old people lying on blankets after the pilgrimage up the... More

The most unique place that i ever seen in Myanmar. Even i still wondering how it could happen where the rock at the edge of the cliff can standing without falling down? Anyway, the best place to be visited when you visit Myanmar. let's say that you'll never come to Myanmar if you don't visit this amazing and unique place.... More

This is a must see destination if you travel to Yangon. It is crowded and chaotic, but there is something truly special about the golden rock. It had a serene vibe. The trip to Kyaikto itself is enjoyable and a great way to see the local way of life, and a stopover in Bago for a few hours is highly... More
