If you are lucky, you can catch the most beautiful sunset on top of the mountain. No matter how tired and horrible truck ride one experienced earlier, one would feel worth the while with the sight of the breathtaking sunset and the cool air. But staying a night to experience their lifestyle and visiting the Golden Rock during the night... More

At first sight you think: it's just a rock with gold paint. But the longer you stay - and see the colours of the rock change with the setting sun and the lights going on after sunset - the more it grows on you. Sunrise was a little less mesmerizing. It was also the only place in Myanmar that was... More

I have no idea how the rock continues to balance on top of the mountain (if I was a cynic I would think they had put a rod through the middle) - it defies gravity The truck journey up was interesting - we got very close to the edge of the mountain a few times! Our guide had paid for... More

well its good visiting this place, the rock has its own history and/or myths whichever you see it, the view of the rock from different angles together with the view around is awesome. its also interesting to see the devotion of the pilgrims, as i learned people sometimes go here to spend a few days here doing prayers and Buddhist... I hired a taxi to drive me from Yangon. We left after 7 AM and arrived in slightly more than 4 hours to the base of the mountain. Then it is an hour ride up the mountain on a truck. I elected to sit in the back of the truck, which they packed full of people. The ride will be... More

We caught the bus in the morning from Yangon (7,000Kyat) we arrived at 1.00pm had a quick lunch before going to the bus stop ...There were plenty of "buses" trucks with bench seats across the back tray which carry a lot of people, the signs overhead stating that insurance is a component of your ticket (2500Kyat) you can walk it... Myanmar never can be boring. This is just another must do in this amazing country. Not only the rock but stay overnight and join in the pilgrimage to this amazing place. The experience of staying overnight on the mountain and then at dawn walking down the street and seeing all the bleary eyed pilgrims and monks making their way down... More

It's not an easy trip coming here, long car ride from Yangon, plus a bumpy lorry ride up (fun though) from Kipun base camp. I was treated with a truly spectacular sunset, beautiful natural scenery, and best of all, the holy site the Golden rock itself. Being a Buddhist myself, I am a little biased that this place moves me,... More

We were packed like sardines onto the back of an open truck which had 8 or 9 rows of too-narrow benches too close together, so those with long legs had to dip them under and downwards. They put 6 people per row, so there were around 50 per truck After a hot ten minutes in the sun we pulled into... More
