Having not ridden a horse in a trillion years ( when I fell off) and my daughter never having ridden before we were both extremely anxious about setting foot anywhere near a horse. We did however feel we wanted to try this experience and are delighted that we did! We were collected from our apartment by Paolo our instructor and... More

We were picked up from our hotel by Paulo, who was very friendly and welcoming, and taken to the stables where we met all the horses. We had a very enjoyable ride through the mountains with lovely weather and beautiful scenery. The horses were a pleasure to ride (so unlike the usual holiday ride where the horse you ride just... Top ratings all over. Very nice lady named Paula who cared deeply for her horses (not like I have seen other places, where the horses were just a meen to make money). My horse climbed like a mountaingoat- in a good way ☺. I took the two hour trip and it was not for beginners. We saw beautiful nature and... More

We had a wonderful time with Paula at Quinta do Riacho, I am a more experienced rider whereas my partner has only ridden a few times. He received a lot more guidance than he had done on hacks in the past - most people just told him to kick or pull the reins whereas Paula explained before and in the... More

As a birthday gift a friend of mine organized a horse ride during the holiday in Madeira. I was a beginner and I was impressed by the seriousness and care to details of the guide Paulo (inquiry of personal details and condition/level, provides riding hat, making sure during the ride that everybody was ok). Great ride on the hills, thru... More

Having read all the reviews I was really keen to visit, I have done some riding in the past but this was the first abroad. I rode Vivaldi who was lovely and generally well behaved, the views were incredible and the ride was a lot of fun. However..... 5 mins before the end the horse spooked at a piece of... More

Dear Linn, I am deeply sorry to know you are still recovering, I had no idea, after the couple of times I talked with your husband Alistair, it had been that serious, just realizing that after reading this review. It was a shame that a pleasant ride ended up which such an odd fall. We have a Hygiene Health and... More

I am an experienced rider, back in a day I did few jumping shows. Haven't sat on a horse for about 5 years, but I am more then comfortable with trotting and galloping. My boyfriend is a beginner but he has been on a very crazy ride where he would just follow others and get the opportunity to gallop at... More

Hello, I know that the ride didn´t end up the way you expected, but, like I explained you before we got on the horses, João didn´t have enough experience to go on a more advanced ride and after he got on Apolo it was clear that he couldn´t gallop, stearing the horse was already challenging enough. The time we stay... More

Paulo's local knowledge is great, as is his English. His love for his animals unquestionable as seen by the greetings his dogs give him on arrival - speaks volumes. Horses are well looked after and his experience and care of beginners is excellent. The ride was a little slow for me as it was "mixed ability" but still stunning scenery... More

We went to ride with my mum who haven't ridden for years. Horses were nice and calm. Paula gave really good instructions. If you never had ridden a horse before we can warmly recommend horseback riding at Quinta do Riacho. Views were amazing.

A great morning. Picked up from the hotel and taken to the stables. Matched to our horses and then off to the mountains for 2 hours. Great views, spirited horses whose personalities and foibles were explained to us by a passionate Paola! Would thoroughly recommend to see the real Madeira. We loved it all. Clare and Sara.
