The Basin is beautiful for a walk around. You can sit and watch the boats go by and be entertained watching them on use the lock. There are two pubs and the lock tea rooms. The walk along the sea wall is lovely as is the walk along the canal. The car park is free which is a bonus. There... More

My first visit to the Basin but one that will be repeated. Car parking was free and there were plenty of parking places. There was much activity to watch on the estuary ant the area is a bit of a sun trap in the middle of the day. There are a few places where one could enjoy a pint or... More

An interesting area where the canal meets the estuary with boat movements at high tide. The boat trip along the canal is very pleasant with lots of wildlife and a view of Maldon from a different perspective.

Came here this weekend for a lovely walk in the sunshine. It was a pleasant walk and one we will do many times now we have found it. Upon entering Heybridge we turned into the new housing development and parked here, there are no restrictions and there is lots of room so no worries in stealing residents spaces on the... More

Used to visit a lot when I was little and hadn't been back here in years until this year! Everything I remembered it to be and pleased to say that magic was still there! Very pleasant to stroll around with the lovely boats in the harbour. There are also some lovely cafés here too to stop by. Makes a nice... More

Warm sunshine prompted us to visit Heybridge basin and were glad we did. We parked in the free car park, climbed a few steps and walked along the canal path, (towards Chelmsford),then about turned and walked towards Goldhanger, passing the lock, delightful tea shop and two pubs. Like a step back in time as little has changed. Lots of activity... More

Although there are new houses, when you get to canal lock, it still has the feel and appearance that it might have had one or two centuries ago. Great place for a stroll, for birdwatching or for a fast lap of the canal/river loop, around 50 minutes' walk.

We have just spent a very happy couple of nights on our yacht in Heybridge Basin. We arrived late on Wednesday evening because we couldn't access the lock until high water around 8pm. I had phoned ahead to the Jolly Sailor pub to ask what time they stopped serving food, and although we were going to be officially too late,... More

I love going to heybridge basin its so peaceful and beautiful, there is a lock with lots of boats where you can go rowing at a really good price, a choice of 2 pubs both with great food and a cafe on the sea wall. There is s sea wall walkway that runs in either direction so you can walk... More
