Staying in Ascona I found that I had to go and work in Bern and the quickest way was to use this train line via Domodossola I had only recently found out the line existed and thought I should go on it one day Well it is a very scenic journey climbing up the pass on a single track line... More

Centovalli is a small railway that winds it way up from Domodossola to Locarno in Switzerland. For me, Locarno wasn't all that interesting but you can get a boat from there to Stresa to make a round trip in a day. The scenery alongside the railway is very impressive and i am sure almost all would really enjoy this. You... More

I doubt if you get get better conditions for my day trip so lucky me. Much to enjoy but the light etc was exceptional, I just feel sorry for those who insisted on taking photo after photo when they should just admire the views and buy a guidebook stuffed full of professional pics!

We took this train as we needed to go to locarno from domodossola, but it was not only a journey trip but a panoramic train , beautiful scenaries of the centovalli and valle vigezzina that can only be seen if you take this train!

As the Swiss-Italian cross boundary ferries of the "Lago Maggiore Express" were not operating, we took a return trip on the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway to visit Locarno from Domodossola instead, making use of the Tourist Day Return fare of 23 Euros per traveler. From Domodossola to Locarno, we took the Panorama train, which had a seat right next to the train... More

We boarded the train at Locarno and almost 2 hours later arrived in Domodossola. The railway is narrow gauge so the carriages and the spaces between seats are also narrow. Luggage space is also at a premium. So it's not particularly comfortable as four passengers share a small table. Balancing drinks can be tricky. The scenery is good in places... More

We drove to Locarno from Luino (about 65 minutes ), parked in Locarno Station carpark ( 14 francs for 5 hours and the car park machine ONLY takes cash ) . Ticket office for the train not manned, but there is a self service machine that takes euros, francs and credit cards. we bought the touristica round trip ticket for... More

We stayed at Orselina with the view of travelling on this narrow guage railway between Locarno and Domodossola. The option we chose was the Lago Maggiora Express package consisting of boat from Locarno to Stresa (3hrs), train Stresa to Domodossola (25mins) and Domodossola to Locarno on the Centovalli railway (1hr50mins). The second class all inclusive ticket was 39CHF (about £27)... More

The thing to remember is that it's a slow, scenic train from Domodossola, Italy, to Locarno, Switzerland. Don't do this if you're impatient or don't have the time. One way is almost two hours. The second-class, round-trip ticket is 23 euros + 1.50 supplement that you pay on board the train so we paid 49 euros total for two people.... More

Agree with many that the spectacular views are not so spectacular in summer as you seem to be in a thick forest pretty much the whole way - certainly on the Italian side. Locarno very disappointing except for a lovely lunch. Boat trip back to Stresa was great on a sunny August afternoon.
