The Centovalli is a beautiful place to hike, but the Italian side return ticket for two people is cheaper than travelling as a single person, one way, on the Swiss side... since the Italian side is lovely enough, if you don't want to pay tons of money and are entering the train on Italian ground - skip Switzerland.

A great way to get some down time while watching the world go by. We combined this with the lake cruise from Locarno back to Stresa and the three hours passed surprisingly quickly. Plenty to look at on all legs of this circular journey.

This train ride is a fantastic experience on a nice day. You will slowly climb on the italian side and cross a plain to the town of Re. After the border to Switzerland is when it really becomes exciting with deep gorges , high bridges and mountains all the way down to Locarno where it arrives in the center of... More

A train ride takes you to the start of the narrow gauge railway which winds through beautiful scenery for 2 hours ending in Locarno Switzerland. After time for a lunch break there and stroll around, you board the ferry for a leisurely 3 hour journey back down the lake to your resort. This is all included in the price of... More

I got a "Maggiore Express" ticket when in Stresa and it included the regular train trip to Domodossola, the Centovalli scenic train trip to Locarno (Switzerland) and the return trip by ferry back to Stresa. It was worth it! The trip from Domodossola to Locarno is one of the most amazing scenic train trips I've made, through mountains and valleys,... More

This was the trip of a lifetime for me. 2 hours of wonderful views as the train wound its way through the Alps past lakes, through the forests and over deep gorges. We bought tickets in Stresa for the "Maggiore Express" which includes a mainline trip to Domodossola, the scenic trip to Locarno and a boat trip back to Stresa.... More

Other reviewers have commented on the slightly cramped seating and the limitation to the views caused by the vast number of trees but overall the journey is an experience worth having. However I am glad we came back by boat as I don't think a return journey by rail would have kept me awake! Trolley service came through once during... More

We boarded the train in Locarno, Switzerland to travel 52 km to Domodossola in Italy. The train is clean with a refreshment trolley serving drinks. The seats are in groups of 4 so a bit tight for leg room with anyone sitting opposite. The windows are large, as you would expect, to provide scenic views. The train passes through many... More

I travelled from Domodossola to Locarno, which is included in your travel expenses if you have a Swiss Pass. Would be best to sit on the right hand side for the better share of the views. And the views are great - mountains, valleys, waterfalls, viaducts, little towns. But for me it was the most uncomfortable train I've ever been... More

Dear Russell V, thanks for your time. Please note that our mountain railway is a narrow-gauge railway with obviously limited size: the space between a seat and the other is reduced. We really hope you will have the chance in the future to travel with us once again! Kind regards More

Title says it all really. Had good weather when I took the trip. May 25th 2015. I would pay the small surcharge (only 1.50 CHF or €1.50) for the panoramic train. It's probably best to sit on the right if travelling from Domodossola but the views are good anywhere you sit. You should expect trees as the route is largely... More
