Maria fumaca is a one way train ride Carlos barbosa to bento Goncalves or reverse. Interesting old steam engine uses wood. Music and dance take place on platform and in train. No English offered but translations in brochure. Very touristy but charming.

The train ride takes about 30 minutes, with one stop at a station that does not support the amount of passenger. There is no beautiful sights during the ride. 5 short shows are presented during the ride and are the only fun you will have

Not expensive, if you do not have much time, but want fun. The people are funny and you can enjoy both the trip and the wine (and food).

This journey on board an ancient steam engine is worth taking if you have kids. The steam engine (maria funaça) takes tourists throughout the valleys of Bento Gonçalves and Garibaldi, two towns in the southern Brazilian mountains. Avoid going on Sundays or during bank holidays, for it gets way too crowded.

Amazing trip where you can sightsee the route of grapes, wine and champagne. Totally recommended for a group tour or in couples!

If you're looking for a cultural program. I suggest a tour of locomotive. Besides the nice view, it shows Italian dances and of course, a lot of wine during of the trip. Take the opportunity to buy wines. They are cheap and excellent. I was in a restaurant called "al Primo Canto. " It is an extraordinary traditional Italian meal,... More

My wife, her cousin, and I took the Maria Fumaça steam locomotive from Bento Gonçalves to Carlos Barbosa last week. Not cheap, but a good morning activity to do to give yourself a break from wine tasting. The train ride features some song and dance routines performed by local talent, some acts more talented than others. It's fun. Reserve ahead... More
