Three times to India and first time to Kerala, the backwaters were my favorite! Pristine, peaceful, serene. We went down to the docks the day before and looked at all the houseboats and negotiated a good price for our family of four. We chose a 2 bedroom with upstairs. Upstairs is important for privacy and viewing. We did not get... More

Liked the Quiet and Peace. Liked the ease of travel. Disliked the insects (but outside the resort) Language could be a problem in certain pockets. Airport is far but prepaid cabs are the best option. Locally rickshaws are available

We took a day cruise thru the backwaters...wow! So beautiful and serene. It was just my daughter and I on the boat with a staff of 4! Cooked an amazing Kerala-style lunch which was one of the most amazing meals of our trip. The boat cruises slow enough for you to really see this part of the country. Just breathtaking.

The chef on board produced wonderful food and the skipper pointed out wildlife and points of interest. Room was comfortable but hot during the day (air con at night). Only problem was eating outside in... More

Visited Kumarakom and took both normal and house boar rides. It is a good experience. I suggest to hire house boat for 2-3 hours ride in day time instead of staying over night.

As far as backwater is concerned, Alleppy is far better than Kumarakom. Kumarakom is more like a seaside than backwater.

Real beauty of Kerala is here... so beautiful, we did a houseboat trip and then stayed at Resort at backwater. Wonderful and my words can't explain it...you have to experience for yourself.

I fell in love the backwaters area in Kerala. I think that this is the place makes the state unique and every tourist have to visit it.
