If you are in Kerala, your trip cannot complete without a boat ride in backwaters. Many people book nightly package of a houseboat but due to lack of time, we book boat two hours. In a very hot day, the boat ride was surprisingly very cool and relaxing. We spent first hour in the lake and the second hour in... More

I found Kumrakom better than Alleppy. There are different types of shikaras better ones are booked via resorts. The Shikaras available at jetty are cheap but no good feelings.

I've visited many lakes on boating so far, but this place is 'ONE OF ITS KIND' that you must visit at least once. The House-Boat experience was one of the best holidays I've had so far in my lifetime. We didn't stay overnight though, we took a ride for 3 to 4 hours along with lunch on-board. In my opinion,... over-rated to speak of, lucky if you get a decent and honest person to take you around, else a tout would fleece you for nothing. pls do your research beforehand and try and pre-book, specially for those who do not understand the local language and are very prone to been fleeced

The name backwaters suggests something these are not - instead they are the region's main highways along which everything is transported, goods as well as people (villagers, ricefield workers, schoolchildren on their way to school etc.). Cruising along these waterways is a wonderful experience, and if you tire of watching the people, there is plenty of beautiful nature all around.... More

we took backwater boat ride in evening. It was really refreshing and mesmerising. The boat owners are courteous and will take you to the roof top where winds blow at great speeds. Trust me, you'll savour the experience whole life.
