We had a guide which I'd recommend - he could spot birds miles away and talked us through all the different types of bird and bird call. It was interesting to see the fishermen too. We liked the bird sanctuary for a brief morning visit - however dont forget to use mosquito spray if you're going at dawn. We did... More

Birds, I didn't find many but it was a long walk and the pathway is maintained properly. If you are happy about walking you will enjoy it, it has a top view at the end of the path to watch birds, if you are lucky.

Very badly maintained. Needs lot of improvement. would be good if they take more entry fees and improve facilities.

This sanctuary does not have any birds but a huge number of mosquitoes. I had a very bad experience and would really not recommend. I believe there were more birds in my resort than what I saw here. There is just a path where you can walk amidst tall trees and spotting the birds is next to impossible... let alone... More

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a noted bird sanctuary where many species of migratory birds visit. It is located in Kumarakam 16 Km from Kottayam in Satae of Kerala

kumarakom is one of the most loved destination by foreigners.for me well an average picnic spot.kumarakom an house boats are synonymous.u get house boats for rs.1200/hr for min of 4 hrs here.though the rides are memorable for my taste well not so convinced. may be its too many times i traveled in thm. u can also get ordinary safari boats... Paid for it, but saw very little. It is January 3, and maybe the birds have not migrated in. Tourist trap. The butterfly garden and the stroll was good, butsaw nothing.

were told to get there at 6am for the best sites / views. no body there till at least 6.20. suggest pay the 300 rupee for a guide otherwise you might see a few birds in the tree tops. It was a good early morning walk , didn't see to much but saw enough to know what we would see... More

As keen bird-watchers, we got up very early on 30th December to see the migratory birds. However, we didn't see a single bird whilst in the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. We actually saw far more from the side of the road, upon approaching the sanctuary! The place was also full of litter and not well-kept - especially disappointing as this is... More
