Beautiful bird sanctuary with lush greenery on the banks of the vembanad lake. To actually see the birds, one must walk up to the watch towers near the backwaters - this involves quite a trek down a narrow path. So be prepared and carry minimal luggage. Must see if one is visiting kumarakom/alleppey.

Saw many birds! Place can be managed better by authorities! Small area to visit. Watch towers need to be maintained.

We visited in the early morning in July, a time when migratory birds are apparently not there, just native birds. At the second watch tower we could see thousands of birds in the monsoon rain. Amazing sight! Make sure you walk all the way to the end of the trail. Others had turned back because they said there were no... More

This is yet another trip you must not miss if you are at Kumarakom. Make an early morning trip. Some rear birds depending on what time of the year you are there. My take, do the trip by a car as well as on a local boat on the Vembannad Lake and ask the guy to take you to the... More

I visited in January 2015 and was disappointed after my morning walk. Did not see any birds at all. It was more of a nature walk. There were hardly any birds, and place was simply silent. I saw more birds in the lake than in the Sanctuary. In fact the KTDC Waterscapes resort where I stayed had more birds.

May be beacuse i visited the place by 10 in the morning. Well, later on i got to know that the best time to watch the birds is either early morning... More
