If you happen to be in Kumarakom, a visit to the bird sanctuary is a must. The biggest bats among other birds can be seen there. As the bird sanctuary is within the KTDC resort premises, a boat ride ticket in one of the KTDC boats will automatically allow you entry to the bird sanctuary too. Remember to carry adequate... More

When we traveled to Kumarakoam somewhere towards the mid of last year, the monsoons were about to set in. So overall the weather was pleasant. Talking about the Bird Sanctuary, we started as early as 6:30 in the morning and reached the lake (back waters) to take a small canoe like boat. Well let me tell you one thing, the... More

We were told to visit in the morning to see birds. We went right up to the end thinking that it is a circular walk and would join back at the entrance. However we had to retrace our steps back, coming back the same way we went in. You can spot water birds, heron etc which you can see outside... More

Probably an error on our part but we turned at 12pm and were informed we wouldn't see anything and the best time to come would be in the mornings. After excepting this, we just wanted to walk the around the Sanctuary any way and enjoy the trees and flowers however we were informed we were not allowed to do this.... More

Excellent opportunity to view the natural wildfife. Entrance costs 150 rs but make sure you pay 200 rs for a guide or you will miss most of the bird life. Guide was excellent recognising all the bird songs so knew what to look fo. Great display of butterflies as well.

Went up the watch tower 1 which was locked. Maybe if we went on ahead to watch tower 2 we could have spotted 1 or 2 more birds. But... More
