Though all the 1,074 "collections" are all replicas, the viewing of those famous paintings 1:1 closely is still interesting. The best of all is that we can take photos of those "famous paintings". I visited this museum on a day trip from Takamatsu, after first visiting the Naruto whirlpools.From Takamatsu, this involved two trains then a bus ride.It was a week day and the museum was deserted. This museum is great in that it's beautiful and showcases many popular works of art. The downside though is that they are all fakes (reproductions, no originals) and the entrance fee is disgustingly high (around 3000 yen per adult). I live in Naruto, where this museum is located and I pretty much refused to pay that price to see fakes....... More

This museum is like a three-dimensional art textbook. All of the paintings are reproductions on porcelain pannels, but they look familiar. In that meaning, this museum must be unique. Probably, the main purpose of most visitors to Naruto is to watch whirlpools. Maybe some of them visit this museum just to kill time before the right time to watch whirlpools... More
