However, 17 of the original 37 hobbit holes and some structures from the film set are still present. There are spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges from the rolling green hills of the movie set, which is still a working sheep and beef farm.As the Hobbiton Movie Set is located on a real New Zealand farm, we also offer you an authentic and unforgettable Sheep Farm Experience. See how the shearer cleverly handles the sheep, plus take the opportunity to cuddle and bottle feed the pet lambs. You can relax and soak up the unique atmosphere with a great cup of coffee or a light meal in The Shires Rest Cafe, which is also available for functions, conferences or other occasions. We very much look forward to welcoming you at the Hobbiton Movie Set & Farm! As an ex-pat Brit living in Hamilton, New Zealand, I was pretty sceptical about how much I'd get out of this tour - I grew up in rural English landscapes, and can now see Waikato countryside any day of the week. But actually I was pleasantly surprised with this tour. Yes, there were far-reaching views to the Kaimai ranges, across... More

We had to sign a confidentiality agreement so cannot say too much or upload pictures, however if you like Lord of the rings, or the Hobbit, this is a MUST do on your visit. We were collected and dropped back at the Matamata I-site by the tour coach. We were then guided around the set by a knowledgeable guide giving... More

I'm a great fan of Peter Jackson, and when I was in Auckland for work and found out about this place a couple hours drive, I made sure I rented a car for the day and went with a friend from work. It really was worth the trip for me, perhaps because I work building sets for live shows, or... More

As with most, the price is a bit steep, but well worth the opportunity to see and hear how various parts of the films were made (and how much cash was spent on a film set for such a short period of filming too). It was nice to get the opportunity to see the location and understand a little more... More

It was interesting to see the Hobbiton movie set but I thought it was way overpriced. Also not being allowed to share photos of the place with friends is a bit frustrating. We did have a nice guide who gave us plenty of time to enjoy the experience. More

My husband and I really enjoyed the tour of the set for LOTR and the forthcoming Hobbit movies. Be aware you need to sign a confidentiality form prior to the tour so the photos cannot be shared with anyone until Hobbit movies have been released. Tour was a bit overpriced given inidividual tours were too close together and it was... More

We had thought about going on this tour about 8 years ago, but thought it looked a bit dull with only a few things left from the originally LOTR filming. However as the set has been completely redone for the filiming of the hobbit it looks amazing. Get in now before it dissapears again is all I can say, but... More
