The Gorges de l'Ardeche is one of my favourite places in France. I recommend hiring canoes and doing a descent of the river. There are 2 standard length trips, one short journey which takes a little over 1hr (depending on how much water volume there is, whether you stop etc). It's perfect for families with youger kids (minimum age 7yrs).... More

We rode through on our motorcycles on our tour of France. The ride was amazing. Fantastic vistas of rock formations with the bluest of water deep down in the bottom and the bluest of skies above. Great twisty roads for bikes too

We have been to l'Ardeche three times. For us it's best out of season, busy but not over crowded. There are good restaurants beautiful villages the dramatic Gorges. Sports wise, for us VTT cycling is wonderful. Route Ardechoise can find you lost on little tracks and small villages which almost always have a bar. For walkers its equally spectacular. Of... More

The Gorges de l'Ardeche, the Pont de l'Arc, together with the Caverne du Pont de l'Arc, the Aven d'Orgnac and the medieval villages are essential for a visit, even if its only for a couple of days. Swim in the river in summer, or rent a canoe, float downstream or shoot the rapids. We live in France and the Ardeche... More

Gorgeous scenery and well worth an explore - either by car, or better, on foot or by kayak/canoe. Great at all times of the year but especially in the spring and autumn. Beautiful!

The gorges are wonderful when you visit them by canoe. Avoid absolutely the weekends and holidays and try to go there during the week days in may for instance, we were almost alone.

This, the green equivalent of the grand canyon! is just a stunning area, with the winding river seen from high up, on the winding roads, way below and such a favourite with canoeists, at high season there can be up to 2000 of them, and with 30kms plenty of room, and of course the prize view must go to the... The gorges were made by a higher water level eroding the limestone. They are awesome to see. The arch at Pont du Vallon is breathtaking. There were a few canoes in May but it was still picturesque and quiet. This is a very busy vacation spot in the summer months. This was a perfect spot to picnic and swim surrounded... More

A truly fabulous experience for a family that enjoys an active, outdoor adventure. My wife and I recently paddled 32 k's down the Ardeche Gorge and managed to navigate 30 rapids with only one capsized canoe which in itself was a character building experience for my eight year old son (and myself). However I was very pleased that our first... More

Exceedingly lovely/beautiful etc but I imagine in the height of summer the traffic must be hell. Camping establishments, canoeing and restaurants line every road.
