If you've made it all the way up to the village, you have to visit the museum. After all, that's what it's all about. Whether the 'mystery' is true or not, this is a must.

This small museum gives plenty of background information and the gardens are nicely maintained, offering nice views on the surrounding landscape.

If you want to know about the man, pay the entrance fee & wander through the reconstruction of his life. Sauniere came into a lot of money (& despite being a priest) thoroughly enjoyed it as seen by the lavish home he created. The tower cum library is fascinating as it connects energetically to three very powerful mountains in the... More

This adds some meat to the bones of the whole Rennes le Chateau story. The village is free to enter but there is a small charge for the museum. Small exhibits with audio support are interesting and explain some of the mystery.

I really enjoyed the museum and wandering all around Sauniere,s house I loved the history of the place and the legends that Inspied the da Vinci code. Very picturesque view as you travelled to Rennes le Chateu with its narrow bendy roads. Well worth the visit most enjoyable. And not expensive

The museum does a wonderful job with artifacts and signs to explain the region and the history of the town. The views from the Belvedere are magnificent overlooking the valleys below and the mountains beyond. Below the city walls we viewed 2 saddled horses with their riders, perhaps pilgrims, asleep in the grassy area beneath the trees. Take time to... More

If you know the story then the museum is worth a visit less so if you don't. I was underwhelmed by the exhibits and information on display but my wife knew the history so was much more into it - so an average score of 4 stars for us. If you have made the journey you may as we'll visit... More

If visiting Rennes le chateau it would be silly not to visit the museum that explains the whole reason for the place being of such interest. A few euros is all that is asked but the museum is interesting but a little dated and dusty, well worth the entrance fee if only for the spine tingling effect that the whole... More

Yes, there is a marvellous view from the tower, but the views are just as good from the surrounding hills that you can visit without paying €4.50. The member of staff we met was charming and that was the only other positive element of our visit. This tourist "attraction" justifies its existence because a 19th century priest suddenly became rich,... More
