Very good tourist attraction. My only concern was that I went on a very busy day and I am sure that 6 of us were squeezed into a cabin made for 4 for the underground tour which raises health and safety issues. Even though the ride only lasted a few minutes, it was very uncomfortable and claustrophobic.

We did the deep mine tour at Lechwedd which started with a trip down in a mine car. This was a magnificent spectacle - the size of the caverns cut by miners was impressive. And there were 7 water-filled levels below the levels we were able to visit. There was also a story told by a 'child' worker, and a... More

The tour underground through the old slate mines is really interesting and has a well told story. There are loads of other things to do on a rainy day at the site to keep the kids happy!

The visit really made you think about the people who worked down the mines, in the cold, damp and dark. The guide was excellent and very informative. He even got the children involved, which was a plus. Highly recommended.

Our guide made a great impression. First we go deep into the mine in carts (think Gringotts in Harry Potter). With helmets on. Throughout the caverns Mike, our guide, made sure we were well looked after and informed. At each opening a recorded program, almost like a play, was heard and often accompanied by lighting and still figures. The point... More

Had a great day out in terrible weather at the slate mines. Our tour guide was very friendly and informative. We went early in the day so there were less than 10 of us on the tour compared to the much larger groups we saw going down later on. We went with our 3 year old who was a bit... More

Really interesting, unique day out. My children loved the train down underground and our guide (the only female to ever be employed below ground) was amazing. She entertained adults and children alike. The tour was well paced and interesting. We were there about 90 minutes in total and it cost us £48 (2a 3c with a 20% off voucher) which... More

We went here by chance on a bit of a rainy day and were a little taken aback by the price...we did not do any of the bounce or zip wire activities (they were full) but went on the Victorian tour. The whole thing was BRILLIANT!! The site was beautiful but bleak. Hard - a sign of the life led... More

We came here after visiting the National Slate Museum. The mine tour is very interesting. The slate workshop was ok but I personally found the workshop in National Slate Museum was better. We had the 20% early bird voucher and the admission was just over £32...with the discount I think it's reasonable/acceptable, but without it, I think it's quite pricey.
