Perhaps I was expecting too much, but my journey from Andalsnes to Bjorli and back on the Rauma railway in early June left me totally unimpressed. Yes there are some nice views over the valley, and you get to see a small waterfall from real close and a few other waterfalls in the distance, but it's nothing you couldn't see... More

We started at Dombas having come on the main line from Trondheim (also scenic but not so dramatic.) Walked the few hundred yards into the town where there was a bakery, supermarket and cafes to stock up (no food on the train) The train was specially built with large windows to make the most of the views as the line... Went By Coach from Andalsnes to Bjorli stopping at the Troll wall visitors centre, Slettafossen and then following the Rauma river. We then boarded the train which follows the river down into the valley and at its wildest point near the Kylling Bridge Waterfall back through the mountains seeing the breathtaking Vermafossen falls 381 Metres high breath taking scenery. The... More

We cruised for 2 weeks to the Northern Cape and one of our best excursions was to the Rauma Railway. This is viewed by many as being better than the famous Flam Railway and I would agree. We booked directly at the rail booking office which mean not only was it cheaper than the cruise excursion but we were able... More

We visited in May. We had a combined coach and train trip from Andalsnes to Bjorli. Sitting on the right hand side of the coach travelling up the valley we had brilliant views of the Troll wall and Rauma river. Two stops (one at the Troll wall visitor centre and one at the Slettafossen) gave us chance to take photos.... More

This little train's voyage from Andalsnes takes it through some of the most breathtaking scenery I've ever admired. It goes from the depth of the fjord valley, to great heights, over rivers, bridges, and awesome views of mountains, rocks, and lively cascades. Pure joy.

The Flam Railway seems to get most of the publicity when it comes to Norway's trains but the Rauma railway is every bit as good and, in ways better. We rode this route from Andalsnes to Dombas, connecting there to the Trodheim train, in late August. The train was much less touristy than the Flam line. Along the route there... More

I did the The Flam Railway and in comparison i think The Rauma Railway surpasses the latter. The views are magical. The line goes from top to bottom (if you depart from Dombås) and the views are specially stunning when you are at the steep of the montain looking to the valley and enjoying the small bridges in which you... Took a trip on the railway as part of a cruise trip with P&O. Well worth every penny - wish we had time to go further!

We took a coach trip up the valley and then returned by train. Having a personal dislike of coaches, which I find claustrophobic, it was a pleasure to get onto the train. We had a very enjoyable journey down the valley which was enhanced by the unobtrusive commentary (in English). The train even slowed at specific points so that we... More
