Description: T&R Theakston Ltd is one of the oldest family breweries in Yorkshire and...
T&R Theakston Ltd is one of the oldest family breweries in Yorkshire and home of the legendary Old Peculier Ale. Visit this historical brewery in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales town of Masham. Experience first hand the craft and skill that goes into brewing our beers, the brewing process is built on almost two centuries of tradition, passed down through five generations of the Theakston family.2013 is a very special year as not only are we celebrating the 186th year of our company's foundation in 1827,but also ten years since we bought the brewery back from Scottish Courage and once again became a family owned independent brewery. Have a pint of our legendary beer in the Brewery Tap - The Black Bull in Paradise, names after the original inn, the Black Bull, where Robert Theakston first brewed our legendary ale and also the site where our brewery stands, once known as Paradise Fields. We always have six differnent Theakston Ales available on tap including our famous Old Peculier served from wooden casks. There is plenty to do and see including the Cooper’s shop where the cooper crafts the wooden barrels – one of the last remaining working cooperages in the country. Leave plenty of time to browse the gift shop full of ‘Peculier’ souvenirs and other Yorkshire delights.

We received a very warm welcome when we arrived at the Bull in Paradise where the tour starts. It was a Friday afternoon and there were only us and another couple on the tour. Our guide Joan was very passionate about the brewery, its history and its current status. It was a very enjoyable and informative tour - the best... More

We visited on a bank holiday weekend and joined the tour of the brewery. Our guide told us the family history before taking us around and explaining the process from beginning to end. He was extremely knowledgable about the ingredients that go into the beer. It was nice to see a family business still thriving today using a lot of... More

The chance to pay homage to the birthplace of my Friday night tipple could not be missed. After being introduced to Lynn, she proceeded to take us around the brewery giving the whole party a full and informed brief of each step of the brewing process both as it was and is now which to be honest, is little different.... We were hoping for a countryside walk but the weather was dreadful. Glad we tried this fascinating tour. Full of interesting history and quirky stories from our clearly passionate guide. The processes and equipment are a mix of very old and new. We then tried 6 different beers in thirds of a pint, each with the brewery's heritage reflected in... More

We visited on a Wednesday afternoon and only 4 on the tour. A very friendly welcome from the two people on duty and after looking around the shop we went on the tour with Kate. Very interesting tour and she not only told us about the history of the brewery, how the brewing process worked and their products but also... More

Really good tour lasted just over an hour. We were taken all around the factory and were shown from beginning to end how Theakston makes their beers. Really interesting and added bonus you get to sample some of the finished products.

Theakston Old Peculier is one of my favorite beers. As I was in the area I just couldn't miss the chance of visiting the brewery. The tour lasts around an hour and the guide describes the history of Theakstons brewery and the full end to end process of making beer. Our tour guide was very informative and explained the process... More

Lovely staff made this a regular stopoff for a selection of the local beer, served in 1/3rd of a pint glasses, this was fantastic. Great shop with some unique souvenirs, including of course the famous beer
