The landscape is so unreal. You begin to see the river, calm, peaceful and reasonably wide when approaching the canyon. Once you make a turn, you will see the landscape changes within a few hundred meters. A drop of several hundred meters on your right hand side where the river starts to roar. The fiord on both sides of the... More

Please note: This location is also known as Shangri-La Grand Canyon National Park (香格里拉大峡谷国家公园) and Balagezong (巴拉格宗). Neither our hotel or the several taxi drivers we asked were able to identify "Shangri-La Canyon" (or its direct translation in Chinese) on its own. As for the location itself - both the park (and the drive to it from Shangri-La) presented absolutely... More

Maybe it was the rain, maybe the cold. But not worth the drive out there.

When we heard rave reviews about the shangri la canyon,we thought it was a must to see the place, but when we reached there, we were very disappointed. There was nothing much to see there and the trekking wasn't challanging at all. I heard they were still renovating the area so i guess i came on the wrong time but i... More

Great views and althrough the trek is not too challenging, you get great views for not so much effort. May is great because you have lots of different flora to see.

He was friendly, interesting and very helpful and will be looking after you if you call him up. He can be reached at nicefor2007@yahoo.com or at the Rockside hotel in the... More

We had a great experience on a one day 10k guided Tibetan cultural trek that started at the Old Town Square in Shangri-La and visited stupas, the Ringha Temple and provided a traditional Tibetan lunch at a colorful Tibetan house. Our guide was Sonam Gelek, a Buddhist and very experienced Tibetan mountaineering and cultural expert, who shared all kinds of... More
