The terrace is are formed by a white layer of calcium carbonate deposits which has crystallized in the spring water. They are in in Sanba village which is about 100 kilometers from Shangri-La. The terraces are about 140 meters in length and 160 meters wide. It is one of the biggest terraces in China and the world. There was a... More

We took the morning 8 am coach from Lijiang to Shangri-la. The ticket cost RMB 61 and we arrived at Shangri-la coach station at about 12 noon. The weather was surprisingly cold when we arrived at Shangri-la and I was told that it was snowing the previous night. We put on our jackets and headed to our Home Inn hotel... More

We visited whitewater pools after having just been to Tiger Leaping Gorge , so more walking made us a little apprehensive. It was however well worth it. We had a private guide who showed us the easiest track. Be aware that there are donkeys for hire, but they only go a short way up and you have to walk the... More

Although it's around a 3 hour drive from Zhongdian to the Terrace, provided that you're not driving, the views are terrific although there are virtually no places to stop for a coffee on route so it's best to take your own. When you arrive you pay a ‘mission fee’ (as they call it) of 30¥- £3 to enter the terrace... More

This place was really deserted the day we visited. There was a Y30 entrance fee per person. The climb is fairly easy and the view from the top is really incredible. Spring water flowing from streams form pools of calcium carbonate deposits. The pools look bluish in their marble sculptured terraces. This is a holy site of the Naxi minority... More

The place is three hours drive from Shangri-la one way. We took a local bus. It's not so big and we only had 2 hours there before we had to go to the last bus back. We recomend taking a car and stop on the way because the views are amazing.

Decided to pay a visit and did not regret though I wish the sun is more helpful on the day I was there ;o( Generally an easy walk via available wooden staircase though you have to watch out at certain part where the staircase is not properly maintained. Need not ride a donkey up...slowly walk up and you will reach... More

In a refreshing departure from our usual experiences with tourist attractions in China, we arrived at the White Water Terraces (白水台) around 9am to find we had the place to ourselves! There were a few local Naxi villagers walking up the hill, which we would meet later on, but walking up and exploring the terraces was a thoroughly peaceful experience.... More

The Bai Shui Tai (White Water Terraces) is a gorgeous natural terrace with beautiful cliff side pools. The steps in the park there are really horrible and not maintained well for whatever reason unlike so many other attractions in Yunnan. Yet the actual white water terraces themselves are so gorgeous and just so picturesque. As this location is not too... More
