We did a day trip to Manitoulin Island with the car. It was a pleasantly warm, sunny day. In the off season, you don't need reservations. You pay your fee, line up your car in the line that they assign you and wait for vehicle loading. On this trip, we had to drive our car up a steep ramp to... More

booked this ferry about a week or so before we embarked on our trip....good thing ...the ferry was pretty well filled.... I would advise making a reservation ahead of time to be on the safe side.... we were fortunate...the ride across from manitoulin to tobermory was smooth..no wave action at all...nice sunny day...they have a very good restaurant on board,... Highly recommend the Sunset Dinner cruise! The food was really good and the service too. The weather wasn't good for the sunset or upper deck star gazing but they made up for it in other ways.

Went to manitoulin with family and took our CRV on this ferry. Huge ship with a great history. Cafeteria, children's area, large decks for viewing, gift shop, lots of seating, etc, etc. Our children aged 8 and 6 ran around the ship on the deck. The whole experience was unique. The view all the way to Manitoulin was worth the... More

You wait a little in line to get on, but it's interesting seeing the front of the boat open up and come into the dock. The staff are then very efficient getting you on and getting you to park your car. It's a little squishy getting around the cars and up on the deck, but then the ride is pretty... More

The Chi-Cheemaun is a good-humored car ferry with a pleasant route. The ship itself is reasonably new & its facilities are up-to-date. It has the usual cafeteria-style food area - not superb food, but nothing wrong with it either - with pleasant staff. The trip is not too long, a nice break from driving with some good lake & island... More

All was good with the Chi-Cheemaun. Departed and arrived on time. Loading of vehicles was organized and quick. Going from Tobermory to South Baymouth there was "tour guide" available in the forward lounge, pointing out interesting aspects of the area and it's history. It was a very interesting option and we were happy to have caught it. Three trips so... More

If you are going to be taking this ferry, I would suggest booking ahead. On the Manitoulin Island side I showed up an hour before the ferry departure time. However, I had no booking (reservation) and was placed on standby. Even with a motorcycle I didn't make it on to the ferry and was forced to wait over four hours... More
