Definitely worth spending an hour or two here if you are interested in places of religious affiliation, or just different places in general. It is an incredible to see and walk around among all the crosses. Do not try to count, you will soon realize that it is impossible. They are everywhere. Hundreds of thousands. Big, small, home-made, hand-painted, etc.

This is a small mound-not really a hill- totally covered in over 100,000 crosses of varying sizes. This is where the last of the Swedish farmers laid their final crosses, amnd it became a tradition for both locals and visitors to lay crosses here. You can buy intricate or simple crosses at the stalls nearby. We have never seen any... More

Awesome place to visit and very eerie, Years of history and amazing happenings, Visit worthwhile and surrounding areas especially the village. The area as been destroyed or attempted to be destroyed at least three times and each time it as risen again, According to folklore those who attempted this ,had very strange ends ,

The Hill Of Crosses in northern Lithuania has been a site of pilgrimage for hundreds of years. Consisting of a hill with hundreds of thousands of crosses of every size and design, it is a powerful testament to religious devotion. If you are in Lithuania a must see. I will post some pictures & let them tell their own story.

Worthwhile stop to visit the hill...First impression is of a graveyard but then one realizes that there are only thousands and thousands of crosses. Very amazing and peaceful place even for a non believer..Definitely worthwhile to visit.

We were told by a Lithuanian that we had to visit the Hill of Crosses. Wikipedia says that there were over 400,000 in 2006 so more there must be more now. As a Christian, but not a Roman Catholic, I found it weird. Lithuania is Catholic but in 1840's Russians tried to force them to go Orthodox . So this... More

A deeply fascinating and peaceful place. Took at taxi from the tourist centre in Siauliai which waited at the site for 30mins and then drove us back for 50 Lt (could have easily stayed an hour - 60Lt). Worth the journey from Vilnius for sure! I am not a religious person but I was moved by this site and the... More

We were advised that the tradition of placing here began in the 14th Century. It serves as a memorial to fallen freedom fighters. During the long Soviet occupation, the Soviets bulldozed the hill of crosses several times. There are today, estimates of 200,000 to 400,000 crosses. I can believe either #, based on our walk-around. Advised it was special place... More

Overwhelming experience. Big story. This is hard to imagine without seeing it. Even my photos pale compared to the over 100,000 crosses placed on the hill.

This attraction sounds like it might be boring, but it isn't. We spent an hour here wandering around through the maze of crosses. It is wonderful how many people have placed a cross here for there loved ones. The crosses vary in size, shape and wording some have rosary beads others pictures or just words. We travelled there by Taxi... More
