Approximately 10 km north of the town Šiauliai along the road A12 (E77) to Latvija you will find this very special and a little bit bizarre place east of the road. This place has a history that goes back to the seventeenth century and it has been a symbol of Lithuanian Catholicism, but also a silent symbol of Lithuania’s resistance... More

According to the plaque at the entrance, they think that there are 200,000 crosses here, though no one has actually counted and given the number of visitors who could all be adding more, who knows. It's quite difficult to comprehend what 200,000 crosses look like until you see if for yourself - I'm not a religious or spiritual person but... More

Hill of crosses is my favorite place in Lithuania. I've come across articles about it and was well aware of its significance in Lithuanian's christianity. Contrary to some comments, this place has not turned commercial. It is how it is today, shaped by the past and present. Anybody visiting the place could put a cross there, no matter what size.... It's a unique spot, very religious. I think it is a little creppy with so many crosses but still an amazing place to visit!

Pope John Paul II had a mass here for 100,000 Lithuanians. There are thousands of crosses, of all sizes, materials and art work. Impressive to see and to photograph. Very touching. Lithuanians from all over come here yearly. Newly weds come to place a cross for their marriage. It's in the middle of "nowhere" which makes it even more impressive.

Lithuania is a very beautiful country. Not this place. It´s very morbid. The historical value of the place has been destroyed over the years, by converting this place into a tourist spot. Anyone can buy a cross in the souvenir shop, and put it in the hill. you can see why the value of this place has been ruined over... More

The Hill of Crosses is situated 12 kilometers from Siauliai near the Siauliai – Ryga highway. This one of the most sacred places in Lithuania and definitely the best attraction in Siauliai. Over the centuries, not only crosses, but giant crucifixes, carvings of Lithuanian patriots, statues of the Virgin Mary and thousands of tiny effigies and rosaries have been brought... More

I am personally not devout to any form of religion. My visit to the Hill of Crosses was to admire the miraculous scene, which is selected as an UNESCO cultural heritage. Wandering through the countless crosses, I got lost. I was swallowed up by the unbelievable power of faith. They're from everywhere--- Europe, America and even Far East Asia, ex.... More

I've never been anywhere quite like this and have certainly never seen so many crosses in the same place. Fascinating just to wander around and take in the scale of it, photos just don't do it any justice. Even if you're not religious it's worth a visit. I went from Vilnius as a daytrip and found it quite tricky. I... More
