it is possible to fly, walk, drive or take a bus tour to this wonderland of natural beauty. We chose to take a bus tour as the best option for us. The 4-5 hour drive is far easier with someone else driving each way. At a cost you can take a tour their and fly back to Queenstown. Another option... More

Taken by bus to Milford Sound, we boarded "Pride of Milford" for much of the day. On the way to the Mitre Peak, we observed a number of waterfalls which multiply after rainfall, thanks to the granite of the terrain. However, the day was spent in brilliant sunshine so only the permanent falls remain. Emerging out into the Tasman Sea,... More

The gale-force winds beat against our faces as the Milford Mariner plowed past towering mountains of sheer rock plummeting sharply into the frothing waters. Our trip took us to where this glacier-carved fjord empties into the Tasman Sea. Then back. Along the way we marvel at magnificent cascading waterfalls. We ooh and ahh upon spotting young seals resting on a... More

This is a 'must do' if you get to New Zealand. Find a boat or preferably a ship, and enjoy cruising this amazing place. It gives you an insight into this lovely country and you will be awe inspired.

Our cruise ship spent several hours in the Sound. From the moment you enter the Sound until you leave you will not take your eyes away from the stunning views. We had an expert who spent quite a bit of time on Secretary Island and we were able to obtain all the information as to the Sound. Although the weather... More

By all accounts we were extremely lucky to be here when the sky was clear and the wind was calm. Our daughter was here about a year ago and all she saw was fog and rain. Our sightseeing cruise out to the ocean and back was smooth and filled with spectacular views of cascades and waterfalls. It is amazing that... More

We were fortunate enough to visit all 3 Sounds on a cruise ship and I wouldnt want to do it any other way. Sitting enjoying breakfast and lunch in luxury while gasping at Dusky, Doubtful and Milford Sounds was breath taking. It was a cloudy day but clear so we could see all the mountains, valleys, waterfall after waterfall but... More

We travelled from Queenstown took about 4hrs there and 4 hrs back for a 2 hour cruise. Nothing special to be honest. It was nice don't get me wrong but unless you do it DIY a day trip from QT like we did seems to drag! I thought the sail was nothing special, nice land scape just not worth the... More

Fiordland is the largest National Park in New Zealand and is part of Te Wahipounamu – South West New Zealand Heritage area. You can access much of the Fiords by way of backpacking tracking – in other words walking. (Although there is a road to Milford Sound.) Most walking tracks were opened up by Quintin Mackinnon and Donald Sutherland in... More
