We visited Doubtful Sound on a cloudy and partly rainy day. We didn't get the beautiful sunshine advertisement photo-like scenery, BUT the mist and grey clouds made for a very calming, mysterious, eerie boat ride through the fjords... It was beautiful to see and quite a few waterfalls were on show. All the staff were great... knowledgable, friendly and a... More

There were three in our party, so we booked the shared accommodation on the overnight cruise on the Fiordland Navigator. Given that it was cheaper than most hotel rooms, it would have been an amazing value without all of the outstanding food and included hour of kayaking. When we were told that the food was amazing during booking, we were... More

Doubtful Sound is truly beautiful, but it is a long day. It's a boat ride to get closer to the sound, then a bus ride, then the cruise. It's absolutely beautiful and I've heard it's less commercial, less crowded and quieter than Milford Sound. However, after spending the whole day and a lot of money on Doubtful Sound, I think... We went with our 4 year old son, but trip is more suitable to bit older kids. It’s quite long journey, lasts ca. 9 hours (from Manapouri) including ca. 1 hour in underground power station. The tour starts with cruise via Lake Manapouri, and later bus took us to power station. As we were told, the underground road is probably... More

It takes a long time to get to the cruise from Queenstown, nearly as long as the cruise itself. This includes a long bus trip, short cruise and then another bus trip. The cruise itself was good but certainly not luxury. The staff were fantastic, very helpful, extremely pleasant and cheerful. The food was good (buffet style) and plenty of... More

We took the 7am trip and we were happy the boat was not filled to capacity. The spotters did a great job spotting wildlife so we saw dolphins and penguins. The views were amazing although with the wind on the boat, it was a bit cold. We did not pay for the lunches and to me, bringing your own food... More

We took the 7am boat which was a blessing, in that the boat was a third full (certainly would have seemed far too crowded if filled to capacity) but the downside was that the mist covering the majority of the sound never really had a chance to lift. The staff were welcoming and enthusiastic, but almost too much so- there... More

A very nice cruise on Doubtful sound courtesy of Real Journeys. A little expensive but we were glad that we did it. A bit of a dull day but we made up for it when we saw the Dolphins out near the Tasman Sea. The Manapouri Power station was an interesting visit. Quite a long day though so be prepared. More

'Real Journeys' organise a fantastic day. Bus ride down in the tunnel of the Manapouri Underground Power Station proves real bus-driver talent! Doubtful Sound boat trip spectacular. More

Very impressed with boat - very reasonably priced snacks, with complimentary tea and coffee throughout the day. Plenty of bathrooms on board, and clean too! Very informative and friendly coach guide. Good opportunities for photos and absolutely stunning scenery. More
