A short bus ride from Itacare takes you to the point where you can walk to Engenhoca beach. Give it about 30 mins to descend down the path through the trees which run parallel with a small river. Once you arrive there is a shack selling tapioca. Refuel here, the tapioca with coconut and banana is not to be missed... More

Great beach for surf. After a 15 minutes of a light trail, you will find this very beautiful beach and a small river where you can swin. There is only one tent to sell water and coconut water, so remember to bring your food if you decide to spend the day, and don´t forget to pick up your trash. ;)

In late afternoon (about 15:00 to 16:00) the light on a clear day is absolutely stunning. The shape of the beach, the river flowing into it are particularly beautiful. It maybe my favourite beach of the 14 I visited in Itacare.

I would recommend taking a tour with an agency that has vans to their customers. You can also take the bus leaving from the city bus station (Rodoviaria). Make sure you keep the bus schedule and be patient. Bus punctuality in Brazil is not the best. Expect a 15 - 30 min. delay. Engenhoca is wonderful. After you take off... More

It has a small bar where they serve coconut water. A down mountain Riozinho that hot water is clear despite the reddish color due to the iron minerals. Has high rocks in the end where you can take beautiful pictures but do not take bath in these locations. Bathe only on the beach. In all the beaches we visited the... More

This beach was basically designed for surfing. Given the amount of waves it receives and the force at which they approach, not necessarily great for swimming. However, as a beginner surfer it provided the perfect classroom for a full day of learning to ride the waves due to the protected nature at least on one side. Not much infrastructure which... More

There are a lot of groups that start the day going to Praia da Engenhoca before heading down to other beaches. So if you manage to get there after lunch it is very likely you'll have the beach to yourself. Not much structure there though, so better to take water and some food with you.
