this is well worth a visit, the Abbey is very good and interesting, but there is no interation availible like quiz sheets to keep the little ones interested. the gardens / grounds are fantastic. Be sure to ask what time the fountain is being switched on, this is HUGE, the rest of the gardens are simply fantastic and superbly kept,... More

Great few hours spent here - ideal for a rainy/cloudy day. Lots to see indoors and lots to see outdoors - a few things for kids to do. £3 guide good value as is the entry fee (£11?). Quality cafe - not too expensive - great home made soup from their garden. Worth a visit to Perry's Cider musem after... More

Very interesting manor house and the magnificent, vast landscaped grounds were the highlight for me. Beautifully kept with different areas in which to walk and there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Take a stroll around the kitchen gardens too. I didn't get to see the famous fountain in action as the weather was... More

I came here late last summer on a fine day. The building has so much history. It dates back to 1141 when the abbey was built by Cistercian monks and was later transformed into a palatial residence. The interiors are fascinating, with friendly, approachable room stewards. The gardens are on a grand scale and breathtaking in their beauty and variety.... More

The house was once a Cistercian monastery and retains the cloisters, monks' dormitory, undercroft & chapel from that period. The large hall was recently used in the latest version of Hardy's 'Far from the Madding Crowd'. The gardens are wonderful and the bog garden is particularly interesting. The rock garden and the 160ft fountain are not to be missed. An... More

A really interesting House parts of which were a monastery with really a interesting history. Many open rooms with some superb furniture and paintings and stunning tapestries. The gardens are just as fabulous with lots of water and one of the highest fountains I've ever seen. Excellent restaurant and a wonderful gallery of local pottery with a working wheel. Lots... More

Can't comment on the house, which was not open when we visited. Except the Chapel, that is. This was very interesting. Well tended and well stocked gardens, with many of the varieties conveniently named. Huge, tall fountain, colourful bog garden and extensive plant sales area of particular note.

Hadn't heard about this place but staying in Axminster we drove past the signs and so planned a visit. Anna and I thouroughly enjoyed the whole experience. There are extensive gardens with a wonderful selection of flowers (early July) and lots available for purchase at quite reasonable prices. The cafe is quite imposing with a vaulted roof but has a...
