If you're visiting here for the gardens I would say visit in summer as there wasn't much colour in the borders on our visit (mid-April) or in the kitchen garden. Still a lovely place to visit as the centenary fountain is switched on regularly (just make sure you stand in the right spot if it's windy...) Great views of the... More

My daughter was married here over the Easter weekend, and the setting and ambience is wonderful. The main bone of contention is that the heating in the refectory had failed and a lot of the guests were very cold. Once this was noted the heating was put back on, but not until later on in the afternoon. We were assured... More

We were staying Warner Cricket St Thomas, so a visit to the Abbey is essential, it's worth buying the book at the reception, as it tells of the abbey's varied history, well worth the read. In the grounds at the rear of the abbey is a fairly large pond, try and be there on the hour, as there is a... More

This is a beautiful medieval house and garden. We used Tesco vouchers, so it was a really cheap day out, although we had a lovely lunch, which was really reasonable, but lovely food. The house is gorgeous and so are the gardens. This is a really good place for children as you do not pay if they are 15 and... More

For your money you get to walk around a very small portion of an old house, with occasional references to the fact it was once an abbey. It's nice enough, but you do leave with the feeling that you've lined the pockets of a rich family more than anything else. Worth a visit if you get free or discounted entry,... More

Staff in the ticket sales/gift shop are lovely. Truly sublime house interiors. The plant nursery is superb and well priced. The house guide could do with an update, the photos do not do it justice. A very memorable visit.

Back again to this lovely place now the house is open again. We bought season tickets last year and have renewed them again for this year. Such nice cheery staff to greet you. A well stocked shop. The gardens are beautifully kept. Very pleasant gardens to stroll in. A quiz is available if you have children with you. If you... More

I am the proprietor of Rhino trikes, a company based in Winsham near Chard. For the last 25 years, I have been involved in the conversion of motorcycles to tricycles. Recently, I constructed a machine to enable a 19 year old rider from Yeovil, who'd lost his leg in a no fault RTA to ride again. I was approached by... More

I drive past the Forde Abbey & Gardens most days on the way to work or past it on the bus route from Crewkerne to Chard, so I decided it was about time I actually visited it. I took my Fiancée along with me and wow what a treat, I am so glad we went, the gardens are beautiful, an... More
