I am surprised to read the negative comments on some people's reviews of this wonderful place. We live locally and visit regularly as the membership card is well worth the money and can't believe they don't charge in November. It is so dog friendly it is untrue, where else could you take your dog in the cafe? Certainly better than... More

We went to Forde Abbey Gardens yesterday because entrance to the gardens is free on some days during November, and we didn't have enough time to go around the house. The vegetable garden still looked pretty spectacular even in on a soggy November morning, and the autumn colour on the trees was wonderful. Haven't visited for years and really enjoyed... More

We spent a few hours here. The grounds were very nice and the fountain very spectacular. The tour of the house was informative and interesting. We had lunch in the cafe and were very impressed with the quality and the service.

We went just after the house had closed for the season so can only comment on the gardens and coffee shop. The extensive gardens were beautiful and well worth the walk around, the fountain, one of the most powerful in the country, is quite spectacular to see. My wife is into photography and she spent several hours wondering around shorting... More

The Abbey is well worth a visit. The grounds contain a number of wonderful gardens. We had lunch in the cafe and brought some plants to take home. The fountain is worth seeing but take care if it is windy as you may get wet!

What a smashing place to visit - set deep in the countryside near Chard, Forde Abbey is a joy to behold. The House is charming and has a great, warm atmosphere - the staff are friendly and very knowledgable. The formal gardens are delightful and the Lake with a massive fountain is highly enjoyable especially when visitors are standing downwind... More

Plenty of late autumn colour in the gardens, with a spectacular outdoor water fountain. The house was also well worth the additional admission charge and was of great interest through the architecture, fixture and fittings. The tea room was excellent with a good choice of cakes and light lunches...terrific coffee. Customer service and welcome was very friendly and helpful. A... More

We visited in late September and the gardens were still very impressive. It must be fabulous in the summer. The house is interesting and there are plenty of knowledgeable stuff to answer any questions. The café/restaurant was pretty good but we were surprised and disappointed to find that at lunch time (12-2.30) with a limited menu of sandwiches, soup, Panini... More

Forde is something of a challenge to find, with some of the approach roads being a little narrow, but once you arrive it is well worth the visit. There is plenty of free parking. We paid for our entry using a £20 voucher sourced through “points” from a major supermarket chain. For £9 I was able to access the gardens... More
