I am the proprietor of Rhino trikes, a company based in Winsham near Chard. For the last 25 years, I have been involved in the conversion of motorcycles to tricycles. Recently, I constructed a machine to enable a 19 year old rider from Yeovil, who'd lost his leg in a no fault RTA to ride again. I was approached by... More

I drive past the Forde Abbey & Gardens most days on the way to work or past it on the bus route from Crewkerne to Chard, so I decided it was about time I actually visited it. I took my Fiancée along with me and wow what a treat, I am so glad we went, the gardens are beautiful, an... More

We only visited the gardens, as Forde Abbey itself was closed due to winter opening times. The surroundings are lovely and it makes a nice walk. We had lunch in the tearoom but neither of us enjoyed it much as it was very cold inside, expensive and quite a limited menu. I cannot fault the attraction itself and I imagine... More

Out of season visit, so the house was closed. however wandering around the garden with plenty crocus plants in bloom made the visit worthwhile. The plant nursery was well organised and had a very good selection of specimens to choose from.

Beautiful gardens centred around an interesting house. The house is not open for another few weeks as it's the off-season, so this review is based on the gardens only. The entry fee of £10 is a little steep for the gardens-only entry, and that is my only little gripe. It doesn't detract from the fact that this is a splendid,... More

Wonderful blue sky, and very colourful display. This was Wednesday during crocus week. Could have been a tad warmer! Lunch in the tearoom. Venison terrine with pistachios and toast was outstanding. Small menu but high in quality. Last visit was summer fair and this visit made an interesting comparison with the activity in high season.

Only the gardens were open when we visited in February, but even so, Forde Abbey is still worth a visit. The gardens are spectacular even in early spring - so many snowdrops, crocuses and mini cyclamen. Can't wait to return in another season when it is also possible to see the inside of the abbey.
