Puffins, kittiwakes, fulmars and shags are just a few of the birds to be witnessed. Then its off to deeper waters where whales are searched for. On the way back, passengers get the opportunity to try their hand at fishing. « less

Plenty of room on the boat; good weather protection clothes provided; Friendly skipper; Note: there is no passenger cabin or covers so do wrap warmly under the supplied suits; keep your cameras covered with a plastic bag to protect from rain / sea spray. Plenty of time spent with the whales and a sensitivity for their environment. More

Grudarfjordur is a few hours drive north of Reykjavik. It is beautiful and the whale watching is fantastic. We stayed at the youth hostel with overlooked the bay or you can stay at the Hotel Framnes . The hotel can arrange the whale watching boat trip. The whole peninsula is breathtaking. More

We happened to see that Laki Tours was starting a winter whale watch tour to see Orcas in the Grundafjorour Harbor before our trip. I booked the trip on line, which was quite easy. The trip was awesome. It was very windy the day we went out so we couldn't go out too far but the tour guide (the owner... More

Grundarfjordur is my favorite place in Iceland because it is so incredibly easy and reasonable financially to enjoy nature and the activities in it. This boat tour was so much fun we went again another night. First off no crowds. The boat is docked a very short distance from the Hotel Framnes. It is the right sized boat to make... More

This was one of the most personable exciting and relaxing trips I have ever been on! To start you get on this amazingly beautiful pristine wood boat that takes you out of the bay to see the puffins and many other water birds on a protected Island, which only the priest can set foot on. Siggi, the guy who works... More

We had not seen any puffins yet and a local recommended them as we toured the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. The captain/owner is also the owner of the Hotel Frammes which is where you buy your tickets. It was reasonably priced - ~ US$45/person. The captain and crew were quite courteous and knowledgable. We first visited a protected puffin island. We easily... More

I suggest you take the night fishing trip. The sun stays out so late you feel like it is late afternoon, but then you get this incredible sunset a few hours into the ride. The boat ride is seriously magical. I usually get seasick, but this ride was smooth. The captain, Frank, and his first mate, Siggi, were a barrel... More
