The boat trips up the Cherating River were a very interesting part of my recent trip to Malaysia - I went with Hafiz's tour and consider it to be excellent. I know other tours also cover the same stretch of river, but from what I saw Hafiz is the man you want. His guides have eyes that would credit the... More

I dont have much to talk about this place. Cherating is more popular with it beaches and resorts. The river? Who would want to bother with the river if the beaches is amazing.

We loved Hafiz' Cherating Fireflies cruise! Hafiz is very informative and knowledgeable about fireflies. He has a deep passion for them, and he manages to pass that flame to his visitors. Totally recommend his cruises on the Cherating River, whether it is to see the fireflies (night) or the mangrove cruise (day).

We did the tour with the Hafiz organization. At first it seemed like he learnt by heart the whole story he gave us, but you quickly forget there are other people with you on the boat when he calls the fireflies to land on you. It was a magical experience!

The tour starts at 4 pm ( subjected to change according to the tide ) so advice to call beforehand . The tour is not so informative but more of a boat ride to view the mangrove trees up close and if you are lucky , some animals eg snakes, crabs, squirrels , monkeys etc. The boatman has a really... The River cruise is new and exciting for children, especially those from urban area. We get to see mangroves, snakes sleeping on the tree branches, lizards, spider crabs and birds such as king fisher during the 1-2 hour river cruise. Something new for a change. The organizer also told us they have a small team of people studying the fire... More

Unless you've seen this with your own eyes you wouldn't believe how amazing the firefly trip is. Hafiz is a complete firefly enthusiast and will tell you what to expect. However the way he uses his flashlight to call swarms of fireflies is just magical. Do it: you won't regret it!

My 1st visit was about 3 years ago. The experience is still amazing! It's a very good activity for couples, families or even big groups of friends. Very magical & romantic moment to watch fireflies lit up & fly towards us 😛 the only thing that is a turn off is the life jackets which stink 😳

Mangrove River Cruise was awesome! 1.5 hrs spend spotting wild animals like snake, iguana, rare blue crab, lotong ( a monkey species) and learning about trees in the mangrove.. Turtle watching basically depends on the season and your luck! But in case the turtle is not coming, we got to release baby turtle to the sea!! Such a great experience!

The mangrove daytime tour was a good way to spend 11/2 hours. The tour in open boats goes up the river and the guides point out the wildlife along the way.
