A must see area. In Summer, be aware that you cannot take your car their. Instead take the public bus. Although the bus is not cheap (8 euros from Cangas de Onis), it was a good idea to close the road to private cars ... as it is rather difficult to drive there. On top there are two lakes, great... The journey up by bus is very twisty-turny and quite stomach-churning. Once you're there there is a walk around the lakes which is pleasant enough but for better or for worse it is very popular. The toilets were "inoperative". Helpful staff.

Excelent hiking, even with a thunderstorm. Nature at the best, not overcrowded, as it was a weekday.

We took a bus from Covadonga after visiting the Basilica. The views are breathtaking, maybe the best of Picos de Europa. We were lucky we went in a clear, sunny day and walked the whole trail, amazing!! cows wearing bells around their necks, the lakes, the mountains!! A MUST!!

In early July, the landscape is dotted with cows wearing bells around their necks. This really is the epitome of 'green Spain' with beautiful expanses of grass and patches of snow on the distant mountains. Today, there is a very nice café above the lake, but it would have been fascinating to see the area when it was the preserve... More

We took the bus from Cangas de Onis bus station up to the lakes. This could not have been easier: there is good parking at the bus station and the buses departed every 15 mins. The return journey was similarly trouble free. Up at the lakes we took the 5 kilometer way marked walk round both the lakes. The views... More

After visiting Covadonga, drive upwards The same road until you find 2 lakes on top of the mountain, you will want to take long walks so be prepared, you will find asturian cows, sheep, beautiful views and a sense of freedom. Dont miss them. PD You cannot swim in the lakes.

A truly unique experience, not just because of the lakes (which are obviously the focal point), but the whole experience of being at such an altitude, which I had never experienced, and the sheer beauty of the scenery wherever you looked. Whatever your preferred mode of taking pictures make sure it has plenty of space/battery!! We took a picnic and... More
