Less than 200 kilometres south of Paris, nestling between the cities of Tours and Blois, is a haven of poetry. A natural oasis, a headland stretching out 40 metres above the wild Loire, Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, owned by the Centre Region, welcomes the public all year round to its chateau and park and, from April to the end of October, to the unmissable International Garden Festival. Whatever the season, the chateau - once the home of Catherine de Medici, Diane de Poitiers and Princess de Broglie - beckons you indoors to admire its welcoming and lavishly furnished interiors. The International Garden Festival has been providing a unique panorama of landscape design all over the world since 1992. At the same time a source of ideas and a nursery for talent, the Festival gives an extra boost to the art of gardens and gains the interest of both the public and those in the trade by displaying new flower arrangements, new materials, new ideas and new approaches. The diversity and the high quality of the projects have contributed to the Festival's international reputation, which has become an indisputable meeting place for displaying the work of a new generation of landscape gardeners, architects, designers or gardeners.

We decided to visit the chateau and not just the gardens and wished we had spent all of our time at the gardens. We also visited Chenonceau and Cheverny, and they were much interesting and well furnished. However, the gardens of this chateau are amazing and huge. Spend your time in the gardens.

Not cheap, but really worth every penny; the splendid gardenexpo, the nice english garden with art, and the castle. We spent more than 6 hours(!) here, and loved it. Do yourself a favour: start to the right, with the english historic garden (with art!) en afterwards the gardenexpo on the left side. Don't forget the part on the other side... More

I don't know why but this was one of my favorites! Not huge and chaotic, very warm and cosy, we enjoyed our visit !!! Our dog was allowed in the castle in our hug and that was a nice surprise also! I really felt like being in the medieval time in this chateau and I highly recommend it'

Visited to see the sculptures in the grounds and garden festival. We had visited this a few years ago and were so impressed we wanted to see this years version. There are now two entrances and a large car park at the South one. The garden sculptures are as good as ever. The garden festival gardens had only been open... More

Each year since 2004 we have managed to visit the international Garden Festival. Always amazing in places & interesting to see how the permanent gardens are evolving. Hoping to go again this year.

The gardens of the chateau are well worth a visit. There is a lot of work being carried out in the gardens and there is now a new entrance to the Chateau and Gardens and new parking areas. You have to pay to enter the gardens but it is worth it. The gardens are really interesting and there is a... More

This Château is a bit out of the beathen path but it is worth a visit specially for the outside and the surrounding grounds ! It is easy to spend a couple of hours there . There is a walking path from the village to get to the castle and it is scenic but for those not interested of doing... More

The exterior of the castle is breahtaking. It's like a fairy tale castle. Inside is nicely decorated and furnished too. Bear in mind that you have to walk up the hill to get to the castle, but it's worth it.

There are several that are grouped together and the history and legends of same are incredible as well as the castles themselves.
