France is renowned for its formal gardens. Here at Chaumont every year is something a little different. A themed garden design festival that attracts designers from all over the world as well as France. Living locally we are lucky to be able to visit a couple of times. The festival opens in April until October, so over the months the... More

There is so much to see, visiting this Château, which isn't very big but it has rare painted ceilings, majolica floors, furniture from different centuries, excellent wallpaper, etc. and best views towards the Loire River and its islands. The English landscaped park covers an area of 21 hectares and was designed by Henri Duchêne. There are a lot of installations... More

The Chateau is one of the more interesting ones in the Loire Valley. The design and layout is similar to other chateaus, but each has its own story to tell. The artwork and artefacts from different periods help to give insights about the importance of these buildings in French history. The stained glass exhibition was also interesting. The view from... Chateau Chaumont is not one of the big three, but it's well worth visiting if you have time. It's easy to get to if you're in the region. At one time it was owned by Catherine Medici, swapped for Chenonceau to Diane Poitier. (You can learn more about them at Chenonceau). What was great about this one were the nice... More

The garden festival in 2013 was so poor I couldn't believe it, The displays looked like a middle school project and were not artistic in design or professional in execution. Check this out carefully so you don't waste your time--hopefully, future years will be better! The lines for food service were very, very long. The chateau grounds have wonderful permanent... More

The weather was very mixed on the day we visited but we managed to see all the gardens and the chateau itself. The artworks in the various outbuildings and the chateau itself were very interesting. Some of the upper rooms in the chateau which housed artworks reminded us of palazzi we visited during the Venice Biennale this year - in... More

It was raining when I visited the chateau, so passed on the Garden Festival unfortunately. However, the chateau is well worth the visit, as are the stables. Some fascinating modern art displayed in various places.

Whilst the garden festival alone is well worth the visit to this chateau, don't miss out a wander around the main house. The historic parts of the castle are well kept but the "art gallery" in the loft space reflects the true state of how the "non-visitor" areas normal state. Quit amazing some of the treasures kept up there. The... More

The Chateau is nicely restored, so homelike with recent pictures and fresh flowers. The view from the top of the Chateau over the gardens was spectacular. A trip to the Loire Valley would be incomplete if you did not take in these fabulous gardens, which are an absolute treasure.

This, my 5th visit to the International Garden Festival over the past; what; 15, years; time to write a review. It gets better and better in terms of things to do and see (though for me the best Festival so far was 2010) but this year the photo exhibitions were brilliant - the Japanese gardens and the Loire river sand...
