Just 20 kilometres from where we were staying in Amboise the castle is beautiful though the interior is more an interpretation of what it once was. The gardens and other buildings are fabulous. Not as crowded as other sites but very well worth a visit.

Stunning castle, lots to see inside with stunning gardens and out-buildings (stables), and stunning views over the Loire. You could easily spend a whole day here. A huge garden exhibition (a la Chelsea Flower Show) was fun. The audio guide is well done and worthwhile.

We biked from Amboise to the Chateau. Such beautiful country side riding through provincial farms, quaint villages, forests, vineyards, sunflower fields, hay bails (like those Van Gough painted!), polite drivers and friendly cyclists! The Chateau De Chaumont-sur-Loir is a 15th century castle that is very picturesque with beautiful windows. The history is fascinating and the intricate details are amazing -... More

Visited the Chateau after the International Garden Festival on the same site - both very well worth a visit and good value for 16 euros for all of it. Do look at the art on the upper floors of the Chateau - very well displayed glass art set in shabby rooms - a good contrast. Lovely views of the Loire.

A must see when in the Loire valley. The gardens are designed by designers. Each year there is a theme for all the gardens. It takes 2 hours or more to tour all the exhibitions. But worth seeing.

As we are now living near here, we decided just to visit the garden festival and leave the chateau until our daughter visits. We parked in the free municipal car park beside the river which is opposite the chateau and has tables and benches where we had a picnic lunch before our visit We really enjoyed the gardens, there were... I've put the gardens first as they were the high point of our visit. The special gardens of the deadly sins running April to November 2014 was very disappointing but the normal gardens were lovely. The chateau is lovely and you are able to explore freely. We also visited the art exhibition in the stables area, again not to our... More

Castle is in great condition and is a wonderful one hour walk through. Views of the Loire are great. Visit to the Garden festival is recommended as well as a quick view on the stables

We have been to several chateaux in the Loire-et-Cher area, but spent longer here than at any other. Everyone else has mentioned the long uphill climb to wards the chateau. The gardens surrounding the chateau give you lovely photographic possibilities. The interior is amazing - but for us, it was made even better by the unrestored rooms that were 'given... More
