The Tropical Spice Garden is a definite must when in Penang. The setting is quite beautiful but also quite steep with a lot of stair climbing. As it was quite hot and steamy we found that we couldn't do the place justice though so headed for the Tree Monkey Restaurant for a drink and a bite to eat. The drink... More

This is my second visit after 2 years and the Spice Gardens has been upgraded unfortunately so has the prices (RM28 audio guide, RM35 guide - the latter is definitely worth the extra). Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable - the walk was steep for grandparents but he patiently waited. We smelt cinnamon, citronella, gingers, local herbs, tasted cats whiskers... More

It has a fantastic setting and the food is ok. The staff is very friedly, mostly from the Phillipines.

We have just come back from Pearly's fantastic class. Our stomachs are smiling. We cooked three delicious dishes, each of which we were able to individualise, eg, more or less chilli, salt, sugar, etc. Pearly's cooking expertise is of course legendary, but more than that, she enthusiastically imparts her wisdom and knowledge of the healthful properties of different foods and... The gardens were a very serene and peaceful experience. However battling through the Penang Island traffic to the site proved a stressful experience. Once we made it to the location, we enjoyed some food at an eatery on the opposite side of the road to the Garden. This was beachfront and was very relaxing listening to the small waves wash... More

We booked the cooking lesson and then when we got there we found there was a free tour included... it was perfect as it was nice and early and still cool. Joseph, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and knew everything about the spices inside and out, and was also very patient and calm despite my mum asking questions every two... More

My husband is here on business for four months, and I just came to join him for a long visit. We hired a known driver to him and toured the island for the day. The driver's name was Eddie and he recommended some stops. We stopped at the garden around 11:00. It was stifling hot. It is a tropical rainforest... More

we tried to take a bus to the place but unfortunately we took the wrong bus. we cannot talk much with the driver, so you guys must be careful when asking the bus driver about your destination.

This is a definite must see in Penang. Beautiful rainforest botanical gardens with everything from coffee to bananas and more. With hidden trails and seductive touches such as hammocks and 2 seated swings, this is a wonderful place to while away a few hours. Complimentary herbal tea can be found at a rest stop within the garden. Tips: bring insect... More

I thought it was a bit far out of the way (about a 50RM taxi ride from Georgetown), but it was worth our trip. Our guide provided us with amazing information, made us smell/taste spices & tea and spoke about Malaysian traditions and culture. Although it was scorching hot, the walk through the path was lovely and entertaining. The sad... More
