The visit to Mt Katao was a disappointment as you can only drive till the army checkpost. You cannot get to the lake. The drive is pleasant enough but a drive to Tsomgo lake is essentially the same and you get better snow there. Also the tour operators charge Rs 3000 to get there which is exorbitant.

Eternal solace on earth after 52 hair-pin bends from Lachung. Look for permits to visit the place. All permits need to be arranged from Gangtok. Travel agents charge extra for entry to Katao.

We happen to stumble across Mt. Katao because the road to Yumthang Valley and Zero point was blocked because of a land slide. Pretty close by to Lachung, so it can be considered. The attractions are an amazing valley view and plenty of snow. I visited in the month of April and locals tell me that it is an unusual... More

a restricted place being an Indian Army area. It is at an elevation of 15,000 ft. about 28 kilometres from Lachung across the river. Drive is extremely beautiful giving an unobstructed view of huge mountains, white cottony clouds, colourful wild flowers, wandering grazing Yaks, amazing waterfalls and abundant snow everywhere. Curvy road to Mt.Katau appears to be a doorway to... More

This is a must visit place if you are in Lachung. If anybody pay extra to the driver they will take you to this place. Excellent place. We have gone there in the month of March and the total place was covered with snow. Also a medium snowfall was occurring at the time of visit.

This is more beautiful than Zero Point. Here you enjoy the view of Water fall with Snow. The road view most beautiful while going to top. The roads are just like steps...
