Barra de Potosí is a great place where a lagoon and the sea merge. We loved it, with a few beach restaurants (not fancy but friendly and confortable), a spectacular lagoon and a very special place to go to swim (kind of a salty river that ends at the sea). People is nice and friendly. We went there on a... More

A local tour guide (self trained in English and very capable) offers tours for birds and crocs in the fabulous lagoon of Barra de Potosi. Avi can hook you up with horse back tours too, to ride out to the wild turtle beach on the back side of Guamiliule hill. Check out the info at the site www.lastbestbeach.com

Three years ago we took a tour that included kayaking on the lagoon and fell in love with the wild birds and beauty of the lagoon. We just returned to find the lagoon still unspoiled and teeming with colorful birds. We aren't birders but this place is amazing.

We went fishing and caught bonito which we had the chef at our hotel cook for us. It was fantastic, very meaty just like tuna, although our hotel owner turned her nose up at it! We had lunch at one of the enramadas on the beach, can't remember the name but it seemed to be the busiest and in the... More

As a group of 5 Canadians we wanted to experience the local sights and culture, however with limited spanish, amongst us we know the numbers to nine, can order beer, find a bano and greet people. Through a local contact we were introduced to Avi, we spent the day with him and his assistant Axel. As natives of the area,... More

We had a tour of the lagoon with Avi. What a beautiful and exciting morning. Avi takes you in his boat to the mangroves. We learned, and got to try our skills at throwing fishing nets and catching crabs. Avi knows the wildlife and the birds seem to know him. Afterwards we spent time on the expansive beach which is a... Arrived at the beach location at the entrance to the Lagoon, with a warm welcome from Avi our tour guide who is very knowledgeable of the area and Eco-sensitive. The mangroves along the lagoon are home to many various bird species and fish. The tour was the highlight of our birding in the area and Avi is an excellent guide.... More

We first went to Barra de Potosi in January and were blown away by the remarkable bird viewing. We took a taxi from Zihua and our driver knew one of the guides at the lagoon who took us out in his panga into the mangrove lined beautiful lagoon. At every turn there was another fabulous bird sighting. We saw birds... More

We took the bus from downtown Zihuatanejo and headed east out of town. Just ask the bus driver if he goes there and if so, he will tell you where to get off the bus. That is important because the bus can get very crowded and the stop is just a tiny spot off the roadway. It costs 10 pesos... More
