This is a great visitor centre. The staff/guides are knowledgeable and friendly, and the information available seems to be current and up to date (with safety and fun the key messages). The gift shop had a nice selection of items. There are a public toilets available to use, and an outside seating area.

A best kept secret. You can easily spend hours here. I was interested in the geology and the way glaciers work. The video they show is another must see and all for free!!

Not really interested in the great outdoors or mountaineering but the centre was full of extremely interesting information including multi-media presentations. The place is well set out with artefacts which tell the story of the area. Very well worth visiting

While the visitor centers offers a lot of books on the history of mountaineering and offers maps of other areas, it has only one small leaflet for Mount Cook National Park. The map in this leaflet is small, and presents just the immediate surroundings of Mount Cook village. It is only a very superficial trail map and does not show... More

A lovely centre only metres from the main Hermitage Hotel and well worth looking through. Lots of interesting memorabilia to see and lots of souvenirs and books available about many different subjects. Beautiful stained glass windows in one room worth looking at in itself. Pop in for a look, it's worth it.

It is worth the 1.5 hours from Lake Tekapo. take the hooker track-3 hours return: 3 swing bridges, different alpine flora, snow capped mountains, lakes and rivers. if you want pictures, take the hooker track. take food with you.
