We booked this as part of the Hermitage Hotel package deal, but still pretty expensive. The Glacier Explorers Lake experience was very interesting and started as a worthwhile activity, but this turned into a disappointment when the guide who ran the boat did not go up close to the Glacier and stayed at least 500m away; allegedly for safety reasons.... We did really enjoy this trip although it was pretty expensive and we felt it was a bit over rated. As previous reviewers mention there is a 5 minute bus ride plus a 20min walk to where you get on the boat. Once on the boat you go around the lake looking at the different iceburgs, which on our trip... More

Stumbled on reviews of this trip when we were staying at Lake Tekapo and because we were in the area we headed to Mt Cook Village. The drive there was great and we enjoyed the walk up to the lookout. We were so excited by what we saw that we went back to the hotel and were lucky enough to... More

Thank you for a wonderful experience on the glacier lake. Touching the ice bergs and seeing the enormity of them was absolutely amazing. The Guide gave a very informative talk about the glacier and its retreat and of course the fine day helped to make it a memorable trip.

Although we in only in Christchurch NZ some 340 km from Mt Cook it has been 36 years since our return to the area.My wife and I decided to go away on a 3 day holiday and with good weather expected in the mountains Mt Cook was our choice. Having previously seen the boat trip advertising we thought now or... More

Was a great trip, lots and lots of ice bergs. Guides were great, very informative. Had a awesone time. Our 4 year old thought it was great touching ice bergs, and the guide fished out an ice crystal for her to take home. Defiantly a must do really enjoyed.

the glacier had calf-ed the week before and the lake was full of ice bergs. we were able to boat all around them--even saw one ice berg roll. the guides were fabulous and informative both on the 5 min. bus ride--20 minute hike and on the boat. I would highly recommend this side trip

Well organised tour departing from the Hermitage. We were taken out in a bus to the carpark then a 30 min walk to the lake. Not an easy walk for the aged or disabled. Then transferred on to the boat for a close up view of the glacier. We were very lucky on this trip as numerous icebergs had popped... More

We had a fab day, it was about 32 degrees, we got picked up from the Hermitage hotel, and driven to the nearest car park. there was about a 30 minute walk - which was really hot on the day. We explored some icebergs - which seemed mad in the heat - and one of them even turned while we... More
