The Tokaj region has a rich history and, although it's known by many 'hardcore' wine enthusiasts, it's still very much 'yet to be discovered'. You can see some amazing old-world, traditional wine cellars from this region, buildings and small producers making these unique wines from these local varietals - some interesting dry as well as the well known sweet 'Aszu's'.... Very cosy and very quiet town of Tokaj, good place to try unique sweet wines, combination of volcanic soil, micro climate, local species of grapes and noble rot, Botrytis cinerea fungus.

I loved this place. So beautiful and quiet. The wine is the best as I have ever tasted. I did not like that just about every store and wine tasting establishment was closed on Monday. I was very disappointed. So, do not go on Monday unless you are arriving late.

Tokaj is Hungary's most famous wine Region, with the Aszu it's most famous wine....You won't find any red grapes grown in the area (for commercial use), however you will find an abundance of variation in wines from amongst the 2 main white varieties grown. They cover the spectrum from totally dry to fully sweet and a myriad of layers in... More

Excellent, excellent, excellent. You have to visit this wine region once you are serious about wine. Not only that you visit a nearly 400 years old heritage, yet you are able to enjoy hospitality, excellent food, and even much better wines. No doubt: Mád is the place you can not miss. 2 good restaurants here will make you happy. The... More

Tokaj is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. Amazing landscapes, little, charming town surrounded by vineyards, small, local producers and barrel tasting in the cellars - it's all here. Aszu - absolutely top - class wine. Great lesson of history of the region and wine itself... Perfect to visit in May/June.

Tokaj wine region is a must when visiting Hungary. The region of world famous for it's wines dating back many centuries. Tokaji Aszu, Tokaji Szamorodni and Rieslings are some of the best and pricey. The Degenfeld vineyard is just one of the many exceptional ones in the region.

Friendly, charming town, lots of good wines to taste. Beautiful scenery along the Tisza river. Lacking in cafes.

Tokaj is a small town, full of wine-selling shops and privete producers' wineries. You may find top-class ASZU-6PUTTONS OR cheap Furmint too. Folks are nice, but hardly speak english. You may buy 2l. bottle of Muscatel /semi-dry, very tasty/for 4-5 euros.

Its not like the wine regions of USA or NZ, where you can easily drive into a vineyard and sample. Plan your trip ahead of time and find out which ones are open for tours and make an appointment. Beautiful area and you will see many small vineyards with caves, almost roadside when you can go down into.
