We didn't have an intention of staying in Tokaj. We were driving through this town on our way to Debrecen from Slovakia. The town seemed so beautiful and romantic that we decided to stay there on our way back. Staying in Tokaj was one of the best of all out trip. We stayed in a guesthouse named Bone Vendeghaz es... We visited the Vivamus wine cellar in early June, 2014. The initial greeting with liquer was wonderfully gracious. The cellars themselves are amazing, albeit a bit scary as they were all underground with draping/hanging mold everywhere (apparently gives the wine its special flavor), and many of the overhead lights did not work. Thank goodness for cell phones! At the end... More

Loved the wine - and this is the only white wine I have ever loved. You can compare wines of different ages.

One of my favorite places in Europe with very special wines. This is one of the UNESCO World heritage sites. The cultural landscape of Tokaj graphically demonstrates the long tradition of wine production in this region of low hills and river valleys. Elegantly built and intensely flavorful, it's a simply beautiful wine with a long finish. Tokaji Aszu aromas always... More

We've found a little private wine cellar in Erdőbénye ( near Tolcsva) named Illés. It is open every day from 10 to 20 hour with tasting and buying possibilities of the owner's (Illés János) wines. There are many tasteful products from dry to sweet ones. I can offer to taste dry wines named "sárga muskotály" - dry and sweet too-,... More

Lots of cellers selling their local wines. Food was excellent and the wines even better. We had a wine tasting at Hudacsko Pince - this was excellent and the quality of the wines impressive. 6 Dry and 3 sweet.

We visited Tokaj in October during the wine festival. There were 10+ wineries from the area so we could taste a lot of Tokaj wine. Also, we visited the Rakoczi Pince cellar for a tasting tour. We chose the standard option of six wines representing the broad spectrum of local wines, including: furmint, muskat, szamorodni, aszu second press, and aszu... More

Easy to visit quite a few wineries in a day or two. Particularly loved Szepsy for the professional and interesting presentation about the history of Tokaj and it's wines, & Royale Tokaj in Mad, Derezla for the cellar tour and wine, and had a fantastic wine pairing dinner at Disznoko winery.

personally prefer red wines in nearby Eger, but it is generally nice and interesting region. I recommend to find accommodation in private for good price. We managed to find accommodation in a lonely house with private cellar for cheap...:-) It is a good place for biking. There are some nice castles.
