Excellent centre where all the Staff are genuinely passionate about the birds they are caring for.Just walking through the preserve was beautiful. They are doing important work and deserve our support! Kiwi house was very good and it was good to see a white Kiwi-as we didn't realise they existed. There were also eels that were fed at one o'cloc.,... More

Thanks for writing a review of Pukaha. It's great to hear that you had a lovely visit with us. We do invite our visitors to help feed the eels when the stream isn't high and those brave souls usually have a great time! Pleased to hear your comments about the cafe - I'll pass on your compliments to them. More

Excellent centre where all the Staff are genuinely passionate about the birds they are caring for. Good films, informative presentations, and various feeding sessions through the day. We went specifically to see a Kokako and were rewarded with close-up encounters as she enjoys her visitors! The Kiwi house was very good and it was good to see a white Kiwi-as... More

Thanks for reviewing Pukaha Mount Bruce. How wonderful that you saw a kiwi hatch! It's a very special thing to see and we love to be in a position to share that with some of our visitors. Luck plays a big part as we have no idea just when a kiwi will hatch, but luckily for you it was while... More

I was low on energy towards the end of my vacation but my friend convinced me we should drive up to Mount Bruce and I am so glad! They do a marvelous job there creating enclosures for some bird species for their protection. While we missed seeing a few bird types I appreciate that the focus here in on the... More

I took my 15month old son. He loved it. It was safe for him to run around, he got to see a white kiwi up close (so cool) and there was touch screen stuff for him to play with too. Mum loved the talks. Staff are knowledgeable and wonderful. Well worth the drive.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We find that even very small children are fascinated by the birds and animals here and most parents find that the paths are great for children to run on without fear of getting lost. Great to hear that you felt it was worth the drive - hope to see you... More

The highlights were seeing the kiwi in the kiwi house, and seeing the kaka feeding session. We did the 1-hour tour which was informative and interesting. What was particularly interesting was to hear how successful the centre had been with its breeding programmes for endangered birds. If calling here while en-route, it makes a great spot to stretch the legs... More

Our mistake was we didn't have enough time. We loved seeing the White Kiwi, the Tuatara, other birds and reptiles however we were not able to see any of the feedings which I think would be a highlight. Unfortunately we could not see the brown Kiwi. The pictures, photos, movies are all good and informative. My elderly mum found the... More

Thank you for writing a review of Pukaha. We've recently had a staff meeting and talked about the problem your mother had in the kiwi house. All the team will work on ensuring that we are as clear as possible about the nocturnal house being perhaps a lot darker than expected. Thank you for letting us know that as it... More

Staying in Masterton we earmarked Pukaha for a visit on one of our available days. And what a day it was. The staff were welcoming and the cafe provided good coffee and cake (and the toilets were beautifully clean). We walked and watched, picnicked, then walked and watched some more. Lots of birds, both caged and free in a well... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Sounds as if you certainly did have a full day! Thanks for your comments about the toilets - as we are based rurally we don't employ special cleaners and this job is done daily (and cheerfully!) by the Visitor Experience team - this kind of feedback makes that daily chore... After reading other reviews, our opinion differs a lot. It was amazing to see the white kiwi and its viewer friendly enclosure and we also enjoyed speaking with the very knowledgeable minders/employes. Do realize that you'll never see the Kiwi as in the photo, due to the Kiwi being nocturnal and their enclosure being representative of a night time setting... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review - it's great to get plenty of different feedback about everyone's experiences as this is how we can continually work to improve our services. You may never get to see a little chick being fed pretend worms anywhere else. Wee Valentine was only two weeks old and so cute. The keeper carefully cut up ox heart to look like worms and even wiggled them for him to practice on. You can get so close. The whole park is amazing and so well laid out... More

Thanks for reviewing Pukaha Mount Bruce. Valentine continues to do really well - he loves his food! We also have had another chick hatch on Monday and then lovely news that in the reserve we have two new white kiwi chicks hatched. So pleased that you enjoyed your day! More

This bird sanctuary is set in beautiful New Zealand bush that is now mature, so the trees are huge. There are several well made tracks of varying distance and you could easily spend several hours walking and seeing birds as you go. There are some caged birds, where the sanctuary staff give informative talks at various times in the day,... More
