Doug introduced us to the natural beauty of New Zealand with passion and knowledge appropriate to all the family. We visited forests, beaches, and a gold mining gorge. His recognition from the Queen for services to tourism is well deserved, we were privileged to have spent a day in his company.

After a 2 week tour of both islands in New Zealand fifteen years ago, we decided to spend a week this summer in our favorite spot....the Coromandel Peninsula. Of course, no one knows that area better than Doug Johansen and Jan Poole with Kiwi Dundee Adventures. You want find friendlier, more hospitable folks than Doug and Jan. They are genuine... More

It was a privilege to be guided by Doug for the day - you know he's done the tour many times before but his enthusiasm and passion for the countryside is infectious and he is a mine of stored information just waiting for a question to encourage him to offload some interesting tale or fact.

This was one of our highlights during our month in New Zealand. A tour discovering the coromandel with Doug was a privilege. Nature walk, gold mines, glo worms, beaches and wildlife presented by New Zealand's David Attenborough was a day full of education and humour. For the rest of our trip we constantly drew upon the knowledge that was imparted... More

We had an excellent tour with Jan through the wonderful forest where she explained all about the flora and fauna we could see at first hand. She took us to two gold mines, one of which was still being worked. We saw glow worms and amazing, large insects in the tunnels. There was also a joke, which I won't spoil,... More

We recentlly had a full day tour with Doug of Kiwi Dundee. This was an amazing experience! We had a great nature walk through the woods, the coast, the beaches and in various beautiful spots in the peninsula. It would be hard to find a guide as knowledgeable as Doug about this area past and present. It was a real... More

Spent a day with guide, Bill. Saw rain forests, working gold mines (even met miners on tea break) learned more than we could ever have expected about the region's history and it's vegetation, had a great lunch, and then spent the afternoon touring the coast, with its Maori history, saw Cathedral Cove and the Hot Water Beach. Bill's knowledge was... More

Had a day tour with kiwi dundee, which comprised of a morning nature walk that was extremely informative and fun, pointing out the different trees etc including Kauri trees. Peter was able to spot a pair of Owls which we would have never seen without his sharp eyes and we also saw glow worms in an old gold mining cave.... More

Doug aka Kiwi Dundee is a real character, he is wholly adventurer and nature guru and part comedian. There were 7 of us on the trip and we all had a thoroughly good time. Doug is friendly, very informative, loves to share his experience with others and does not do so by way of a lecture, but instead in a... More

My wife and I recently spent a day touring the Coromandel Peninsula with Kiwi Dundee. It was an absolutely awesome day and one we will never forget. Doug picked us up from Pauanui and took us around the rainforests in the area, showed us glow-worms, caves, Kauri trees and former gold mining villages. He also took us to the extraordinary... More
