A beautiful and extensive park on the edge of the inner Tauranga harbour; the bird gardens feature a range of both native and exotic birds. Set in delightful gardens of mature trees, lily ponds and wetlands. Gift shop. Cafe. Golf car hire. A great family day out and place to unwind.

For the birds

Great park for the kids with lovely setting. Lots of various birds like peacocks and hens walking around. I usually sit in the cafe with a coffee enjoying the scenery.

This was our first visit to this attraction. The bird life was unspectacular, mainly doves, ducks and various chickens. To be fair they do not stipulate what they have. The gardens were nothing wonderful either. The paths in place were in bad state of repair. We got the impression that the attraction may have been good when first established but... More

Entrance fee is only 8.5NZ$, and you can also buy bird feed, suggest to do it. The bird garden is beautiful quite large area with lot of birds and they are all very friendly and feeling safe in human company. We spent there about an hour and could even more. If you have little children, they might be a little... More

In through the entrance way is lovely. a beautiful lawn with free ranging ducks, peacocks and hens, lovely gardens but the aviaries each year look more run down, they are unpainted, minimalistic, no chance for enrichement, dead bird hanging from a tree, signs dont match the birds. i go yearly at labour weekend and wont go next year as I... Great place to spend a few hours with the kids. Lovely walk around the gardens feeding all the birds and the abundance of chicks made it extra special. We have a 5 month old baby and he couldn't stop laughing all the way round. Thanks for a great day....

An interesting place to take the children, you can walk around this 10acre garden where the birds roam free. The more exotic birds are in cages, buy some bird food and feed them. They have a great cafe the food is fresh and good value, also a play area for the small ones. Take your time. We went around twice.

In the holidays I would recommend a trip to the katikati bird gardens.Room for the children to run around, feed the birds and they have a play area. They have a cafe which serves really good fresh made while you wait sandwiches and nice coffee. You will need some time it is about 10 acres and the children usually go around... More

What a fun stop on our way back to Auckland. The garden was great, we enjoyed every minute! The admission price is very reasonable and the birds are funny and friendly. Buy the bag of food when you pay for your ticket. Trust me, it is fun and you will get some great pictures of the birds!

We saw the sign and decided to call into the bird gardens. The cost was $8 each. We wandered through the over grown gardens which in their hay days would had been beautiful. It is a pity it has been let go. Up near the cafe it is clean and tidy. Plenty of chooks and peacocks wandering around. We wouldn't... More
