I love this place.
If you're after easy parking, shops, kiosks, restaurants, cafes, loud tourists with Australian, American, German or English accents, then don't come here.
The reason this place is so good is everyone is here for the same reason, to relax in the sun, eat and drink, have a swim in beautiful clear water and then do it all over again.
It is essentially an abandoned run down Tuna fishing factory, which now only has Italians sunning them selves and having a splash. Find a park wherever you can, after all it is Sicily.

The Tonnara has a very unique scenario, it's an abandoned tuna fishing place with a very small spot to swim. Rocks, shoes needed!
Panorama is beautiful!

Not much left to see. Nice place to check out. Not much parking. Could be a good spot to fish as that's what I saw a few locals doing. We stop by on our way to the reserve, spent maybe 20 minutes on site.

Don't expect to find a parking lot nearby! Better walk for a while and you will be rewarded.
Nowadays the "Tonnara" is only a remain of a big factory where tuna was taken and processed. Some 50 fishermen and workers used to live there. Activities started at the beginning of the 19th century and ended around 1975. The structure is not maintained, therefore quickly decaying.
The atmosphere around it is kind of magic.

15 minutes drive by car from San Vito Lo Capo just off the road to Zingaro Reserve toward the shore. Despite the ravishingly beautiful natural surroundings this ruined tonnara has the feel of a haunted house to its spooky exteriors. All entryways to the ruins themselves appear to be closed up and are clearly marked 'vietato'. Yet I have seen some hauntingly poetic photographs of the (apparently treacherous) tonnara interiors posted on the internet.

A lovely spot but got whacked by jellyfish and didn't return. The Bay of SantaMargherita had good enough snorkeling

Don't know really why to see it (why did I bother?). Maybe from the boat have a glance at it, knowing that fishermen used it to produce tuna meat back in the days... But that all...

Not that much to see but the remains show a piece of a different Sicily and the view towards Zingaro is amazing.
