Description: Release the child within and experience New Zealand's quirkiest theme...
Release the child within and experience New Zealand's quirkiest theme park. Voted by AA Tourism as a must-do Kiwi experience The Waterworks is a theme park with a difference. Set in 5 acres of native Coromandel Bush and just 10 minutes from Coromandel Town is an array of water powered inventions, quirky contraptions and fun to discover at every turn. Inspired by the ability to create something new out of something old our attractions are made largely from recycled materials and are powered by water. Water is used to keep time on the wooden water clock; watch out though it often works on Coromandel time. We've got water cannons to blast away on and bikes that pump H2O. Our human sized hamster wheel is an absolute hoot and our mad inventions leave people wondering "what the".As well as the 70+ attractions to look at, play on, or interact with, The Waterworks has a generous adventure playground area perfect for picnics, an onsite café, free use of BBQs and a natural swimming hole to cool off in during the hot summer months.

An amazing place to take your family, young and old. Take a picnic or hold a family function like we did. Held my Mum's 80th there so had ages from 80yrs to 1yr and everyone had a ball. We could stay as long as we liked.

This was one of the most interesting and strange attractions that I have ever visited. It is small but we'll worth a visit. We visited here in 2010.

It was a great insight into how water can be used to power activities. Impressively it was fully off the grid, and a show case of environmental sustainability. A quirky sense of humour permeated the place. We are an older couple, but I can imagine spending hours here if I had come when my sons were young.

We visited Waterworks on a wet and windy day, and we were impressed. The provided umbrellas helped keep us dry, and the humorous and informative boards throughout the park kept the spirits up. The water features were very educational and my young daughter thoroughly enjoyed them all! A definite must do!

Waterworks was so much fun, it takes you back to being a kid. It is all hands on so you are doing stuff, not just looking.

A fun and quirky place on the famous 309 road near the Coromandel town end. Definitely the most worthwhile place to stop on the road! Lots of hilarious water-linked activities showing Kiwi ingenuity at its best. Friendly staff in the cafe. Good fun even in winter, but plenty of water could fly on a hot summer's day! Some very funny... More

We had a great time at Waterworks yesterday. The inner child in me came out and I played on everything. The written funnies everywhere made us laugh. I would recommend this place to everyone but especially those with children. But one piece of advice.....take an extra set of clothes. And maybe wait till the warmer weather as it was a... More

Drove from Whangamata and survived the 309 road! Friendly service followed by a great afternoon in the park. The water inventions are amazing, the kids loved all of it from the water cannons to the boat racing 😊 Amazing playground too. Definitely want to go back in summer and try out the water hole.
