Voted by AA Tourism as a must-do Kiwi experience The Waterworks is a theme park with a difference. Set in 5 acres of native Coromandel Bush and just 10 minutes from Coromandel Town is an array of water powered inventions, quirky contraptions and fun to discover at every turn. Inspired by the ability to create something new out of something old our attractions are made largely from recycled materials and are powered by water. Water is used to keep time on the wooden water clock; watch out though it often works on Coromandel time. We've got water cannons to blast away on and bikes that pump H2O. Our human sized hamster wheel is an absolute hoot and our mad inventions leave people wondering "what the".As well as the 70+ attractions to look at, play on, or interact with, The Waterworks has a generous adventure playground area perfect for picnics, an onsite café, free use of BBQs and a natural swimming hole to cool off in during the hot summer months. « less

We were recommended to visit Waterworks by relatives and our motel owner in Coromandel. So glad we made the effort. A great day to be had by children of all ages - this one is 65+. My favourite activity was the boatrace gutter. Reminded me of my chilhood activities. Loved the quirky displays and activities.

This attraction was quirky but overpriced in my opinion. Our children both aged 13 really enjoyed the activities. There is not a good changing area so we had to use the bathrooms which were not ideal. They are currently upgrading the bathrooms. There was an area where they could swim in the river, and a lot of play equipment that... More

We took children there for a couple of hours. Thought it was really quirky, really tidy and set out beautifully. Well maintained and looked after. We had a really nice time and I guess would be lovely in summer with the waterhole too even though my nephew did jump in. Lovely surroundings. .worth a visit for a couple of hours.... More

We recently stopped at The Water Works Theme Park on the 309 Road going to Coromandel town and had a very nice time there. Entry price is a bit high (NZ$20 per adult, NZ$15 per children) but there are many interesting things to see and try that will stir your curiosity, make you laugh and allow you to enjoy your... More

In the middle of beautiful bush and a swimmable meandering stream. Astonishingly huge number of interactive fun areas set up with unusual activities for the whole family to participate in totally at your own pace! Even the couch potato can't resist having a go! Woah that flying fox - and I'm an unfit over-60!! My adult children and sister had... More

Too expensive if you don´t have children. It´s not an adult activity. You´re going to get wet, perfect in summer.

We went here on a wet day. An original concept and kids enjoyed it, though somewhat surprised it won awards for best theme park in NZ a couple of years back. Would not recommend without children. Would be great in summer and with swimsuits, plus one's own BBQ food, which you can apparently bring along with you to use on... More

After holidaying in the Coromandel for years, I finally took the kids to The Waterworks. I wish we had done this sooner and its most definitely somewhere we'll be visiting on a regular basis. I'm not sure who had more fun - the kids or the adults. Definitely an attraction for all ages. Loved the surprises some of the attractions... More

A fun day out - and you do get WET! Very original and entertaining afternoon trying out all the different contraptions made from recycled materials, all powered by water. Lots of interactive and fun things to do set in very nice grounds. Cafe also very nice and staff very friendly.

Our kids loved it and would have given 5 stars (7 and 5 at the time). We did just a bit less because it needed a bit of polishing up and for the toilet. Spent there just under 3 hours, not busy at all on a bit wet spring afternoon, interesting place with play areas also, water attraction galore, maybe... More
