Minsmere is a great place to discover nature. The RSPB shop, cafe and visitor centre provide a perfect introduction before you explore the beautiful countryside walks. Enjoy stunning woodland, wetland and coastal scenery and close views of a wide range of wildlife, including many rare species. Families can begin their journey of discovery in the Wild Zone, or build a den in the Wildwood Adventure. The nearby Discovery Centre is perfect for school visits, birthday parties and exhibitions. Self-guided activities include a free explorer backpack to borrow, and there's a regular programme of events in school holidays. Seasonal wildlife highlights include: spring birdsong, nightingales and booming bitterns and nesting avocets; summer butterflies, flowers and nesting terns; autumn migrants, red deer rut and colour; winter ducks, evening roosts of birds and Christmas shopping. Volunteer guides are often available to help you identify Minsmere's varied wildlife.

Visiting once a year is always a bitter (not Bittern) sweet experience. The site is truly outstanding, a morning or even a day doesn't do it justice, you could spend days there. However..... Every single time you go you get a harder and harder and more aggressive membership sell. Ok this time I thought I had it planned but no....... More

Living in Norfolk, Minsmere in Suffolk isn't so far and yet we have never visited. So in the middle of June having booked a couple of days in the area, we went to visit this RSPB haven for all things wild. What a worthwhile trip that was and we shall return because, being oldies, we found it rather extensive for... More

Every year that we visit Suffolk we visit Minsmere and enjoy the walk around the hides, looking in vain for bitterns and spotting as many other birds as we can - this week we saw more than ever, plus the backside of the sole water vole in the reeds. The cafe is always nice for a quick lunch. Apparently the men's loos... More

Words are hard to find to describe this wonderful place. Whilst interested in birds, I am not a birder by any means, but I did hope to see something unusual. I did not expect to see so many birds new to me - avocet, hobby, bittern, marsh harrier, mediterranean black headed gull and many more UFOs! Wonderful experience, joined RSPB... More

Minsmere is a beautiful nature reserve - equally welcoming to birders, families or those who're visiting a nature reserve for the first time. Everyone is super friendly, and maps are provided for visitors who don't know the area well. The huge number of habitats at the reserve makes for a large range of vistas and varied wildlife watching opportunities. In... More

The reserve really does has something to offer all wildlife watchers. I was delighted to see parking away from the main reception area near a flat, easy, route to an easily accessible hide for wildlife enthusiasts with limited mobility - 10 out of 10 for providing that. Enthusiastic RSPB staff are on hand, often in the hides, to help you... More

RSPB Minsmere is fantastic and so varied, both in habitats and in how it is at different times of year. Staff are really welcoming and helpful; we are bird-lovers but not at the 'twitcher' level and found their information and advice really helpful. One of our favourite places to visit in the area and not to be missed.

We love Minsmere. But it seems to have suffered due to the success of Springwatch. Hides very busy, no bad thing but far too noisy. Absolutely ridiculous to shout out when a bird appears, which then scares birds away from the hide. The result is you need a scope and ear plugs. The RSPB staff are amongst the worst offenders....
