Minsmere is a great place to discover nature. The RSPB shop, cafe and visitor centre provide a perfect introduction before you explore the beautiful countryside walks. Enjoy stunning woodland, wetland and coastal scenery and close views of a wide range of wildlife, including many rare species. Families can begin their journey of discovery in the Wild Zone, or build a den in the Wildwood Adventure. The nearby Discovery Centre is perfect for school visits, birthday parties and exhibitions. Self-guided activities include a free explorer backpack to borrow, and there's a regular programme of events in school holidays. Seasonal wildlife highlights include: spring birdsong, nightingales and booming bitterns and nesting avocets; summer butterflies, flowers and nesting terns; autumn migrants, red deer rut and colour; winter ducks, evening roosts of birds and Christmas shopping. Volunteer guides are often available to help you identify Minsmere's varied wildlife.

This place has something for everyone from small children to older people. Plenty of lovely walks and great wildlife for those that are interested. Do visit café at NT Dunwich Heath. Their scones are 5* and I wish I could leave a review for them but I can't find them on Tripadvisor!

Thanks for your review. While I'm sure that the National Trust's scones are very good, please take the chance to visit our café while at Minsmere. Our cheese scones are very highly rated - often described as the best people have tasted - and the cakes and hot meals are similarly delicious. We also use local ingredients wherever possible. We... Minsmere really does have the 'wow' factor. I visited Monday 20th April. We walked around the whole reserve, It took a little while but was worth it, it was incredible. We spent a short while sat in the east hide at around 8.00pm just as the sun was going down. Fantastic, we will definitely go again, highly recommended.

I have to agree that if you can stay at Minsmere until sunset - or arrive in time for sunset - then you really get to experience the reserve at the best time, with superb light and birdsong at its peak More

This cafe in the Minsmere RSPB reserve was very good. The food on offer was well cooked and well presented, Quite a good variety too. Visited twice on a recent holiday and was very pleased both times.

Thanks for your feedback. You're certainly not the first people to say that they didn't allow enough time to visit Minsmere, especially with children who want to play in the Wild Zone or build a den. Our temporary adder trail has proved very popular this spring, and our volunteer guides have enjoyed showing these beautiful snakes to visitors, many of... More

Grandparents and three children (8, 10 & 12) visited and all of us enjoyed ourselves. The stand out feature, apart from a lovely setting and plenty of wildlife, was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff (and volunteers?). For example, one lady went to enormous trouble to ensure that we saw an adder. We had planned to stay for the... More

To summarise, we love everything about Minsmere, apart from the traveling (about 70 miles each way). The drive as you approach the Visitor Centre is, almost literally, breathtaking. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. The place has helped to give us a new interest in our later years of life, birdwatching. Having first visited with borrowed binocs, we now... More

We went for photographic reasons as the Deer were in season. They do private tours but you need to book well in advance. Join as a RSPB member to get extra benefits. Great walks, great staff and lots to do for all. A good day out for the family

We've just enjoyed a week in Suffolk, most of which was spent at Minsmere. Our 5 and 7 year old children loved everything about the reserve, from the Reptile Ramble and Minibeast hunts, to the Discovery Centre, and of course, the cake in the cafe. A surprising amount of the reserve was electric wheelchair accessible (centre, cafe, outside terrace, shop,... More

Thanks for your wonderful feedback. We particularly like Island Mere Hide too - and of course the cakes. I'm pleased to hear that the children loved the reptile ramble - these were very popular walks. It's good to hear that you were able to access lots of the reserve with your electric wheelchair too. Other visitors may like to know... More

Great mixture of wetland, woodland, and coast. Lots to see and do. Our children aged 14 down to 8 wall enjoyed it thoroughly as did we. Very good cafe serving reasonably priced food, with plentiful seating inside and out. Highly recommended.

Thanks for your feedback. We try hard to make Minsmere a great place for all ages to visit, so it's always good to hear from families with a wide age range of children. We hope you'll be able to visit us again soon. More

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful... We are RSPB members and love birds and nature but this place has really impressed us. We saw so many amazing birds, and mammals, and adders - all in a beautiful setting. Glorious, really glorious! One amazing result of this visit was to have my teen daughter starting to be really interested in birds!

We regularly make a trip to Minsmere and we don't live on the doorstep. It is one of our favouriite RSPB reserves, particularly in winter when it can be very peaceful and a good place to spot winter visitors like redwings. If you like peaceful birding then avoid the main hides at weekends - it can be very busy -... More
