Minsmere is a great place to discover nature. The RSPB shop, cafe and visitor centre provide a perfect introduction before you explore the beautiful countryside walks. Enjoy stunning woodland, wetland and coastal scenery and close views of a wide range of wildlife, including many rare species. Families can begin their journey of discovery in the Wild Zone, or build a den in the Wildwood Adventure. The nearby Discovery Centre is perfect for school visits, birthday parties and exhibitions. Self-guided activities include a free explorer backpack to borrow, and there's a regular programme of events in school holidays. Seasonal wildlife highlights include: spring birdsong, nightingales and booming bitterns and nesting avocets; summer butterflies, flowers and nesting terns; autumn migrants, red deer rut and colour; winter ducks, evening roosts of birds and Christmas shopping. Volunteer guides are often available to help you identify Minsmere's varied wildlife.

i visited Minsmere 4 times during a recent holiday in Suffolk. I had been very much looking forward to revisiting as I had not been there for over 20 years. I was not disappointed. Minsmere is a total delight for lovers of nature and wildlife. There is a large, well laid out carpark and staff ready to deal with you... More

You would think with a beautiful spot, great infrastructure and plentiful funding they would turn Minsmere into one of the great wild bird havens in the UK, but alas, not only do the birds not appear, the RSPB seem intent on turning it into a commercial theme park. The variety of waders has declined as well as numbers, even in... More

Oh dear, it sounds like you were a bit unlucky on the day of your visit. I'm really disappointed to hear that so many things went wrong for you on the day of your visit. Let me try to address your concerns in turn. First, the lack of birds. This is a surprise as most of our visitors have been... More

To have a really good day out here, there are some useful things to know: 1. The approach lane is long and narrow with a couple of unexpected sharp corners, minimal signposting, and limited passing places, some of which may well be full of parked cars, so take care. You'll be quite likely to meet a coach or a delivery... More

Wow, what a detailed review. Thanks for your feedback. This is really useful to help us to make your visit to Minsmere even more enjoyable. Our entrance road is indeed long - but if you drive slowly there's plenty of wildlife to spot on your way in - and some amazing old trees. Our overflow car park is only opened... More

We have been members of the RSPB for 40 years and this is the best bird reserve we have been to. The hides are varied in height and great. Good café overlooking the sand martin nesting site. We live quite a long way away (four hours) but I am hoping we can visit again sometime. I am not surprise that... More

Plenty to do and see, helped by the brilliant weather at the weekend. Lots of people but the bird hides didn't get over crowded. Didn't see but heard the booming bittern. Only disappointment was that the restaurant had run out of sandwiches before 1pm, being a bank holiday would have thought they might have geared up for extra visitors.

We visited twice over the bank holiday weekend. A late afternoon visit to Bittern Hide (6.30 - 7.30pm) and we heard bittern, saw marsh harriers and three crane flew over. We also saw deer swimming across the channel to the right of the hide from one set of reeds to another - we saw a dozen cross in the time... More

Excellent place for day out, always lots of birds to see and a good cafe and shop. Plenty of staff around to help id the birds if required.

We have visited RSPB Minsmere on a number of occasions now and has become one of our favorite places. Wildlife value is excellent and good opportunities to view from their well placed hides. Have had some very good views of Bittern, Marsh Harrier and lucky enough on occasion to see Otters. plenty of areas to explore and right next to... More

This place has something for everyone from small children to older people. Plenty of lovely walks and great wildlife for those that are interested. Do visit café at NT Dunwich Heath. Their scones are 5* and I wish I could leave a review for them but I can't find them on Tripadvisor!

Thanks for your review. While I'm sure that the National Trust's scones are very good, please take the chance to visit our café while at Minsmere. Our cheese scones are very highly rated - often described as the best people have tasted - and the cakes and hot meals are similarly delicious. We also use local ingredients wherever possible. We...
