Minsmere is a great place to discover nature. The RSPB shop, cafe and visitor centre provide a perfect introduction before you explore the beautiful countryside walks. Enjoy stunning woodland, wetland and coastal scenery and close views of a wide range of wildlife, including many rare species. Families can begin their journey of discovery in the Wild Zone, or build a den in the Wildwood Adventure. The nearby Discovery Centre is perfect for school visits, birthday parties and exhibitions. Self-guided activities include a free explorer backpack to borrow, and there's a regular programme of events in school holidays. Seasonal wildlife highlights include: spring birdsong, nightingales and booming bitterns and nesting avocets; summer butterflies, flowers and nesting terns; autumn migrants, red deer rut and colour; winter ducks, evening roosts of birds and Christmas shopping. Volunteer guides are often available to help you identify Minsmere's varied wildlife.

Me and my partner visited Minsmere RSPB reserve on 5 and 6 February and were absolutely wowed by the amazing wildlife. We saw marsh harriers, winged plover, dunlin, red shank, bewick swans, snipe, konic ponies and an otter - our first ever otter spot and one we shall truly treasure. The diversity of the wildlife was fantastic considering it's only... More

Thanks for your feedback - and congratulations from everyone at Minsmere on your engagement. Nature is amazing and can be inspirational to many people in different ways - even providing the perfect opportunity to pop the question! We hope to see you at Minsmere again very soon. Unfortunately we're not (currently) licenced for weddings, but our Discovery Centre is available... More

We stayed at Mulley's Cottage just down the road in Westleton and spent 2 days at Minsmere, one just the 2 of us and the other with friends who are not particularly into wildlife or birds. Both days were wonderful in terms of the variety of birds that we saw, the quality of the bird hides and the views.

I had one of the best experiences of my mothering life here sitting with my 6 yr old daughter watching birds hop and fly from one feeder to another. We had a go at guessing their names - shamefully I'm pretty inept at identifying the species - she's better than me already... But the peace and stillness we shared was... More

Many thanks for your lovely words. Nature can easily have that effect on people, and the best part of watching the feeders is that there is guaranteed to be some action to keep the little ones interested. Well done for having a go at their names. A good game for little ones is to invent names for nature based on... More

Awful weather, poor visibility. Didn't see a lot, soaked and cold after an hour, so went back to the cafe to get out of the rain, have a bite to eat etc, and couldn't get anywhere near it, even on a wet January day. Goodness knows what its like in decent weather. Anyway, we gave up and left. Not bad... More

Many thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry that you had such a disappointing visit. Minsmere is a beautiful place to visit, but it can certainly be very exposed in poor weather, and you clearly didn't see the reserve at its best. I understand your frustration at being unable to even warm up in the cafe on your return. Given the... More

We had not visited for a number of years and the facilities, particularly the entrance lobby, were much improved. The welcome and introduction to the centre was both friendly and informative. The site itself, including footpaths and hides, is well signed and maintained and we enjoyed visiting the various hides to see what birds we could spot. The only criticism... More

Thanks for your feedback. We are currently reviewing what information we provide in hides. We appreciate that some visitors find the flip-booklets useful for ID, but even where these are provided, they may not be visible for everyone. We aim to have our volunteer guides stationed in the best locations for watching wildlife, although they will not necessarily be in... More

As it was raining we parked the car and just went into the cafe where we had a cup of tea and cake, which was very reasonably priced. There was a good selection of cakes, breakfasts and lunch dishes. We sat near the window where we had an amazing view of all the different types of birds on the feeders... More

Many thanks for your feedback. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the cafe, and the wonderful birdlife on view from the visitor centre. Even on sunny days many visitors choose to spend some time there. I hope that you are able to return in better weather and explore our beautiful reserve. Don't forget, too, that if you join the... We were extremely fortunate with the weather but i have no doubt we would have had a fantastic day even if the sun had not been shining. The facilities are superb, the hides well situated, the trails well maintained and the children's area is very well thought out. Also worth highlighting that everyone we met bent over backwards to ensure... More

Admittedly very lucky with the weather when we visited but I am sure we would have enjoyed not matter what the elements were. Very good shop and cafe as well and will definitely return.
