One sight to see in Germany that is off the beaten track is Externsteine. Apart from the locals visiting the place with family or friends on a Sunday, the place is rather quiet. Great views to be had from the top of the formation or from the base of the small lake. There is a small charge for parking and... More

What an amazing stone structure in the middle of the woods. It is worth climbing up the narrow stairs to get the full view of the land.

As you are driving to this destination, you see signs saying tourist sight in German. Only when you are at the entrance to the parking do you see the name of this sight on a sign. The history of this place has a dark side and the Germans do not want a lot of attention to the formation. It is... More

Discover this mysterious place in the middle of the old teuteburger forest. Beautiful layed next to a nice lake in the middle of the woods. In the forest around the stones you can find plenty of ways for a nice sunday afternoon walk. You can get there by a little walk from the near by parkinglot

Mystical sandstone rock formations and domineering figures in Teutoburg Forest. It is not a commercialized tourist attraction and it is very peaceful place. It looks not very popular place for Tourists, probably not well advertised. The place is wonderful and is good for hiking and bicycling. One gets a wonderful view of the forest on the top of the stone... More

a strange and massive rock formation in the middle of quiet countryside. A lot of tourists and poor facilities otherwise.

Absolutely amazing place. Do not go there if you have vertigo:) The Externsteine = Rocks are quite steep and the steps a bit narrow, but in general the place is secure. You can combine the ticket for Externsteine with Hermannsdenkmal - the statue is just few minutes drive, in Grotenburg 50.
