Nice couple of big rocks to climb on. Beautiful view from the top. In the woods surrounding the rocks there are a number of nice walking routes. Good for a nice walk in the forest.

We stopped off on the way to somewhere, after reading about on the internet. It was a beautiful place to stop for a rest and a walk before a long drive, which was perfect for us. For serious walker/hikers you could easily spend hours here, though we were happy enough to spend just an hour or two for a picnic... More

We visited when the site was quite quiet. It will be very different when busy. You paid a small fee, from 1 April, to access the stones with their stairs. Well worth it even if you have no head for heights. Several marked out walks around the immediate areas. There is a very informative exhibition in German and English on... More

Hi ! I went there twice, a few years ago, 'cause it's really fascinating ! But the big news is that as last someone has written a handy book for travelers all about this place, in English ! It's really amazing what the ancient Celts of Europe were doing there, why they wanted all those strange images and astronomical alignments,... More

There are many short and long walking paths through the Teutoburger Wald, where it never is crowded - except near to the Externsteine during the weekends-

Once you negotiate the stairs up the view is great. It's a bit narrow but there are safety railings.

Very under-appreciated outside Germany. I have mixed feelings about the easy access to the top of the rocks. It is also a pity that the forest has been cleared to the east of the formation.

First came here in 1966. Not much has changed apart from the safety railings and now there is a charge to go into the stones. But you do not need to pay to look around the area, which is beautiful.

An excellent day out. Plenty to see and do. I suppose you could relate this to Avebury Stones in the UK. Similar history etc. I recommend a visit.
