One of my favourite places in New Zealand for stunning scenery. Do drive up to the observatory for 360 degree views!
This is a beautiful place to visit. If it is not on your itinerary, it is usually not far off and worth the detour. We took the Air Safaris aerial tour and ate at a restaurant with a great view of the lake. We even drove up to the Astro Cafe which has nice views (cafe was full, so we... More
We visited the lake on our drive from Christchurch to Queenstown and it was well wortha visit, it is so beautiful and calm. If we had of known how nice it was we would have stayed overnight. Be aware other than the scenery there are no shops etc.
I love this place soooooo much !!! I've been there twice and I will be there on Xmas holiday next month. The best place to relax with family and friends. There are many activity around. Don't miss it .
We were thrilled to be taken up by helicopter, over snow covered peaks, to land in soft deep snow high up in wonderland. It was the unforgettable experience of a life time. Expensive but worth taking in washing and ironing to pay for this must do.
The view of the lake is spectacular! If your are on the way from Christchurch to Dunedin, I highly recommend you to visit Lake Tekapo. The water is crystal clear and it is definitely nice to have refreshing cold water splashed on your face in Winter.
We drove 3 hours from christchurch to tekapo and was just in time to see the sun set. The scenery was awesome! Skies were cloudy so we didn't manage to see any stars for the night.
If you are in South New Zealand , you should plan a trip to this lake! Its bewitchingly beautiful! The lake is a lovely turquoise color and the church of Good Shepard is a marvelous piece of art ! There are people who come down from various parts of the globe just to get hitched in this beautiful shrine!
Small town... lovely we had a great "bach" (rental home) overlooking the lake (great price and value) 8-10 nice restaurants downtown... all within 200 yards of each other The Mount John Observatory is just 10 min drive out of town Not much in town to see/do other than see the Church of the Good Shepard, the observatory, and soak in... We did enjoy a great hike up to the observatory - that was really exhilerating and fun. You walk through forest on a well kept trail... More
